Hey, unfortunately have to say the same. My gambian boyfriend said it was a luck of god he met me and told me sweet things for months, he manipulated me, played with my heart, made me leave my marriage, but after he had his papers I was like nothing for him and nobody in this life treated me with so much despise and cold heart. Probably he has an african woman anywhere. He also has children there. Again and again I came back to him because I did not want to think bad of him and give him chances to show his character, but at the end of the day I am alone, a used woman, and feel very damaged in my dignity.

hi jay, ruth and juliet, not sure when this post was written but I wanted to write a comment anyway. Well, i think you all have a bit of truth in you about some of the gambian men. They do sweet talk and give you all that God like talk. I have to say though that my experiences have been different with my gambian husband. He is very sweet to me but at the same time he is blunt as I am. I used to think the same thing about my marriage when we first met because I read so much stuff on the internet like what I am reading here. I rearly found anything positive. But after visiting the gambia time and again I see so many happy couples and I am sure they have their issues too. But over all if you meet a man in a tourist area chances are your going to run into these issues. I have read a lot from women from the UK about the gambian men that they met in the tourist area and married them after a bit. But then the men end up leaving them when they get their papers. Not all of them.I will tell you though that for a good majority of the gambian people they are very family & culturally oriented and wouldn't marry outside their culture in order to get in to another country. I seen people make it in other ways. I was accosted by many gambian men in the tourist area but I am a well traveled woman and I can see through the nicest man. so, all I can tell you if you love black men, you can find one just look outside the tourist area next time. I met my husband at an internet cafe (not located in the tourist area)Sure, he was poor when I met him but I also encouraged him that he does not need to leave his country to make a difference in his living conditions. I moved there with him. Any way enough for now good luck

Thank you Gambiansmile, it is nice to read something positive. So you left everything behind and live with your husband in the Gambia? How do you make a living?
I´ve never been to the Gambia, the culture, religion, everything was new to me, I was to naive and believed everything, that is my fault. I met this gambian man when he was an asyl seeker and helped him with a lot of things and now as he has got his papers he has no use for me anymore. I really loved him.

I am a black american and I married a gambian. He has been here for in the us for six years. He was able to come on a scholarship. Well we have been married for one year, and this man is the best man that I have ever had. we just bought a house he gives me anything I ask for and he is 100% good to my children. He is also good in the bedroom. I love my husband.

are all those chilDREN his? i'm just wondering since you've only been married for a year? i know this gambian man who is married to a black american woman and has a daughter with her. she already had three kids from a previous relationship. i hope she is not with him b/c she thinks only an african man would be stupid enough to spend his money taking care of her kids. you know a black american man would not do that. heck a lot od them (not all) do not even take care of their own kids. i wonder where the father of those kids are?

Yes, Mollie I agree that Gambiangirl sounds jealous - Ebony had ALREADY said they were HER kids which means they are probably not HIS kids!!! She said a BLACK american wouldn't take care of their own kids - perhaps sour grapes, methinks?? She can always find a white man if she doesnt rate the black ones!! There are choices...

I, as a Gambian wants to say that I feel insulted when I read some of the things written about us in this forum. The men these women marry are called Bumsters and I want to explain what that means in the Gambia. These are first of all crininals and substance abusers.A honest and respected Gambian looks down on the Bumster because he knows that they are cheats that will do anything to get money from tourist. They lie and prostitute themselves and we laugh everyday when we here about such marriages. These women in reality marry our scum-bags and later want to put the blame on Gambian men. No. these are just the typical Kombo Mandinka men that refused to learn something and believes that they can live from cheating forever.
I was born in Bakau and i was never a buster and I have seen how many women have been led to believed that they are being loved.Do not marry a Gambian you met in Gambia because he is not real. Find yourself a man already living in the west and if he decides to marry you without the need for a residence permit, then this is a marriage of choice.

Well, nobody ever said that all Gambians are bad but can anybody tell me where the good ones are.We are a selfish people and that is the reason why we have all the killings and disappearings today in this country.I am a Gambian but I am not proud of it.I believe that we lack the most fundamental human value called a Sence of justice. We always try to blame the victims insteaad of calling evil evil.I know how tourism functions in that country.I was once attacked by taxi drivers in Senegambia just because I refused to take a tourist-taxi with my european wife. What will an African say if he or she is forced to use a transport system that is ten times higher than the normal cost.He will scream racism but he will not see the same wrong in Gambia. This has been going on since the beginning of tourism in The Gambia.
Sorry, but something is not right.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Cancer

Your powers of concentration are finely honed today, enabling you to focus on something to the exclusion of all else. This is just what you need if you're hoping to make a big dent in your workload or you're doing something very fiddly or detailed. But it's important that you know when to stop, otherwise you might get really weary and lose your effectiveness.
