What's the difference? Nothing, because we are the same race. Taiwanese are also Chinese. We are brothers, the ones in mainland are communist and Chinese, we in Taiwan are democractic and also Chinese.

I'm a native taiwanese as they call it, but i'm also a chinese, no problem with me being a Chinese, i'm even a DPP supporter.
we in taiwan are separated with the communist chinese politically , but we are still culturally and ethnically the same, soon we'll be economically connected.

Hey I'm an American but very much celebrate my Danish, Irish, English, Russian, ancestry and am pleased to keep the heritage alive. My ancestors didn't fight and die to get to this free democratic society for me to forget them. There is great honor in heritage and culture. So although some Taiwan residents consider themselves Taiwanese only (that is wonderful to find such strong sense of self), I also applaud those Taiwan residents who want to keep their Chinese ancestry alive. Neither should be downtrodden. If it came down to it, I would chose America over living in my deceased relatives' countries, but I don't feel it wrong to enjoy the same traditions as my ancestors did for thousands of years. I LOVE DANISH PASTRIES!

I am Taiwanese, but I grew up in the west. I was taught to hate Mainland Chinese when I was young, espescially before I left Taiwan.BUT when I went to the West,Hong Kong and Mainland China, I've met alot of Mainland Chinese people and they are the most friendliest and greatest people I have met, they treat me like their own brother.Infact, I noticed 'overseas' asians treat other asians with alot more respect and are barely divided.
Back when I was studying at university there were big friendship groups of Mainland Chinese,Hong Kong Chinese,Singaporean Chinese,Taiwanese,Malaysian Chinese and South Koreans that all got along very well and were all good friends.Does it really take displacement in a foreign land for east asians to get along with each other ?
Believe me,once you are in the West, all asians are the same-Chinese,Japanese,Taiwanes e,Koreans and South East Asians are lumped under the 'Asian Umbrella' and most people are ignorant, they can't tell the difference between Japan and Korea...and definately not Taiwan and China-all asians are the same! If you have yellow skin and black hair you are all 'asian'. So why bother fighting?
Who cares if there is corruption and oppression in China in the present, don't forget Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore were also under dictatorship and oppression to stop the idiots from causing problems in order to reach fully developed status.I believe with my heart that Mainland China will be more free and no longer oppresive once they reach 'fully developed status. There are alot of young 'world minded' people who believe in more freedom, environmental protection and religious tolerance in the communist youth, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I read this is a Western newspaper so it's not like it was 'propaganda by the PRC goverment'.How can a nation become the most poweful nation in the world without 'exploiting others'? Don't forget the Americans,British,French and some other European countries managed to industrialise and become wealthy nations and get ahead of others by exploiting the resources of other countries by invasions, warfare, land conviscations of indigenous land, and even child slavery in their OWN countries- Have you ever read Oliver Twist? That was a true example of the injustices that existed during Europe's industrial revolution. Children were made slaves, there was extreme poverty and large gaps between between the rich and poor.What do you expect? How can you have freedom when there are extremes in wealth? There will be riots etc if you allowed people to chose their own leaders in such chaotic times. Don't forget when Europe had their industrial revolution, they were under authoritarian rule. There were 'sweat shops' in the USA in the turn of the 19th century, believe it or not, the Americans were also forced into sweat shops to 'industralise'.That is also opression aswell.
500 years ago, the income of Europe,China and India were the same.It took alot of authoritarian rule, oppression, colonialism and land conviscations in mainland europe aswell as colonial regions for the European continent to get ahead of China.History repeats itself, so the same history will repeat with China.Once Mainland China is fully developed, it will promote freedom, religious tolerance and even help develop and invest in countries that are still under-developed by then.
To sum it up, Taiwanese people and Chinese people should stop fighting with each other. Infact all east asian countries whether Chinese,Taiwanese,Korean should forgive each other and stop fighting.I think the whole of East Asia should reunify oneday and reclaim the Pan-Asianism concept of Dr Sun Yat Sen, and the rebuild but MODIFY the failed 'Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere' that was attempted by the Japanese (just make it less imperialistic and give all east asian countries equal speech in the union).

Agreed that we are all Chinese even if you are a DPP supporter. Republic of China is our beloved countrys name and one day mainland and taiwan will eventually reunify under freedom and democracy.

Taiwanese are chinese end of story. They write chinese, they speak chinese, the eat chinese food, they have black hair, brown eyes. Some of them intermarry with Japs. I don't know why? Their taiwanese sausage is basically the same crap in chinese sausage.
