The problem with a lot of the middle east is that in fact, they must come into the 21 century with 21st century idealism and stop hanging on so tightly to the 5000 year old idealism, we admire their strength in holding to their cultures but their is a time when that is impractible and modification is necessary to succeed and live in harmony with neightbors without conflict.
