And also the residents of Novato/Sonoma who are despondant about their choices to get involved in that horrendous commute, time for you to move closer to work, or work closer to home, loser. The only people they want to prevent from jumping are the drivers who are getting fed up with fare hikes.

Loser, eh? I'm a loser because the GGB district is a pack of thieves? Because I'm a native Marinite who has watched development and greed turn our county into a clone of L.A.? Before cheap credit and environmentalists ruined a good thing my commute to the city took all of 40 minutes. Stick to the thread name-caller. A suicide barrier is folly in my opinion and sticks and stones. |

Put up a diving board and charge for the use. Let's bring in some income instead of wasting money and desecrating a beautiful structure.

Constructing a suicide barrier for $25-$50 million dollars is just wrong. If the point is to save lives,$25-$50 million dollars could save literally 33,000,000 lives in Africa by providing anti-malarial drugs to children that contract the disease (a full dose of ASAQ is $.50 per child per day for 3 days). It makes no sense to place a higher value on the lives of the 38 people per year that jump from the Golden Gate Bridge than we do on 33 million Africans. If we are trying to save lives, let's get the most out of our money and save many, many more lives by providing clean drinking water, ART treatment, bed nets, food or anti-malarials to those suffering elsewhere. If we insist on saving lives only in California, then why don't we instead invest $25-$50 million dollars in stem cell research, cancer research or other lifesaving work that will ultimately save tens of thousands of Californians?

Bridges don't kill people. Water at a distance of 220ft kills people. Stop blaming the Bridge. Drain the Bay!

Talk about a waste of money. If they're going to kill themselves, they're ultimately going to do it. They'll just go to a different venue.

They make nets that hang under the bridges and extend outward to catch jumpers. But can you really stop someone that really wants to kill them self's. So they hire security to watch for jumpers and somebody makes it over the bridge. what will happen? will the family sue because they were unable to stop someone trying to kill them self's. How about the person trying to kill them self's also kills the person trying to stop them. It's a no win situation. I have to agree with Katie it's not the bridge it's the people. The city could start charging a $1,000,000 jump fee. Just a thought.

I lost my daughter to that bridge. She was in a short-term crisis over her marriage, and made a long-term decision that was wrong. Evidence shows she tried to change her mind at the last instant but couldn't hold on. A barrier would have saved her. How many others are like that? If you vote against the barrier, I hope someone you love makes you regret it.(Not really, I'm not like that, but you get the idea....) Put some thought into it and don't just have a knee-jerk reaction that automatically condems someone for a mistake in judgement. It COULD happen to you. Are San Franciscans REALLY that cold and callous?
