Apakah tujuan utama pilihan raya kecil Permatang Pauh ciptaan Anwar ini? Ia tidak lain dan tidak bukan untuk memastikan bahawa Anwar akan terus menjadi wira.

Jika ia didakwa atas tuduhan liwat, beliau kemungkinan besar tidak akan dibenarkan ikat jamin. Saya difahamkan tuduhan liwat merupakan salah satu tuduhan yang tidak membenarkan ikat jamin. Anwar hampir pasti menang dalam pilihan raya kecil ini.

Sebaik sahaja beliau menang maka beliau dengan bangga akan mendakwa betapa lemahnya BN hari ini. Dari dalam lokap pun beliau boleh menang.

Jika beliau kalah, maka beliau akan mendakwa BN menjalankan penipuan undi. Beliau akan mendakwa kekalahan itu dan perbicaraan kes liwatnya merupakan konspirasi politik bagi menggagalkan usaha beliau menjadi Perdana Menteri.

Jadi walau apa pun keputusan pilihan raya kecil Permatang Pauh ia tidak akan memberi impak yang positif kepada UMNO dan BN.

Namun BN harus bertanding bagi memberikan pilihan kepada pengundi untuk BN terus berbakti. Saya percaya BN mempunyai rekod perkhidmatan yang boleh ditunjukkan kepada pengundi. Rekod ini cukup untuk membolehkan rakyat memberikan undi kepada BN. Walaupun dari segi emosinya pengundi mungkin bersama Anwar, namun saya percaya mereka mampu berfikir secara rasional dan memberikan undi kepada calon BN nanti.

BN harus meyakinkan rakyat bahawa agenda dalam pilihanraya kecil Permatang Pauh ini adalah merupakan agenda rakyat. Siapa yang terbukti membela rakyat dan masa depan mereka. Pilihanraya ini bukanlah tempat untuk Anwar membawa agenda peribadinya. Lebih dari itu, pilihanraya ini bukanlah "mahkamah" untuk mengadili kes aduan Saiful terhadap Anwar.
Saya fikir selain menghadapi pilihan raya kecil ini, pimpinan BN perlu meneruskan usaha mengurangkan beban hidup rakyat. Apatah lagi dengan penurunan harga minyak hari ini, kerajaan boleh menurunkan sedikit harga runcit petrol.

Biarlah Anwar terus dengan retorik politiknya. Yang penting bagi BN ialah memahami dan mengatasi masalah rakyat.

Jika ini dapat dilakukan, ditambah lagi dengan butiran pertemuan beberapa pemimpin BN dengan Anwar yang dimiliki Saiful, saya percaya impian Anwar untuk menjadi Perdana Menteri 16 September hanya tinggal impian semata-mata biar pun beliau menang di Permatang Pauh.

Impian Anwar tidak lebih seperti kata pepatah "burung terbang dipipiskan lada."
