I am interested in hearing from those of you who lives there,or have visited that area. My points of interest are,Nelson Mandela Museum,Robben Island, Kruger Park Safari and would feel very comfy doing some clubbing and dining in Soweto. For hotels my friend and i are deciding on something 5/4 star rating in the Central-business district of Johannesburg... Do's and donts? Any input from forum members would be very appreciated!

I suggest you start with a good life insurance policy, Mr. American Negr0man.

You know, I didn't think people really vacationed in Johannesburg since it is not really known for its tourism. If it were me going on this trip, I would have probably chose to stay in Capetown. They also have winelands in The Cape. You could possibly visit the vineyards and set up some tastings... But then again I love wine and like to visit wineries but you may not like this sort of thing.... However, Robben Island, which you said you would like to visit, is close to Capetown. Plus, the crime rate in The Cape is much better than that of Johannesburg.

Yes, Sid is right. If I were you I would check your current insurance policies and make sure the amounts are good if something were to happen to you... The crime is quite high in SA.

Best of luck and have fun on your vacation! Also stay safe!

Great go to Johannesburg, but don't expect to enjoy any clubbing in the Western Cape, the people around here aren't as liberal as in the USA.Chances are if you go to a white club or colored club[90% of all the clubs] the bouncers will profile you,the clients will profile you aswell .If you go to a black club the bouncers and patrons will mug you.As for going to the CBD of JHB you will get mugged thats for sure.

Thanks alot Bunniluvsyou.... Robben island is a long distance from where i'll be staying but given the lenght of 2 weeks, i'll have to spend a couple days in Capetown. I am not too big on wine, eventhough i have a nice size vinyard that inherited at my current home but i am sure hanging out in the Cape for a couple days will be cool...

I am not concern about the Crime rate in South Africa or South Central Los Angeles or xyz cities of this globe. I am what you may consider hard core... walked the street of "trench-town" JA,the slums of Rio and many places that a white dare to go... lol.... honestly though,I was more concern about driving laws, manners and basic tiny things that we all share as human beings.

Thanks again for your input lady!

People from Cape Town are very proud of their city, and often appear to have a superior attitude about their city versus the rest of the country. Family ties, long-term friendships and social standing are all important to Capetonians.

Scratch the social standing part, people in Cape Town are the least interested in how much money you have, that is a Johannesburg thing the only way to get social standing is to appear to be as liberal as possible.People in Cape Town are naturally hypocritical in nature, they are the most liberal when they open their mouths but the most "racist" in their behaviour.White People will only hang around with other white people about 95% of the time, the other five percent of the time when they do deal with people of color is when they are conversing with there hired hands[very seldom] or when they are working with darkies.Generally bars, clubs sporting event etc etc are an extremely segregated matter. If you are an extremely wealthy person in Cape Town you do not have social standing unless you pretend to be a liberal. It is appropriate etiquette to refer to darkies as poor people, after periods of frustration in which you err and call the poor black people Kaffirs accidentally be sure to mention how many great black people you know.Generally the only Capetonians who still call poor black people Kaffirs are the coloreds.Coloreds usually are not too concerned about appearing liberal for them to gain social standing in their communities they must marry white, generally this is a very rare ocurrence though.Coloreds love to brag amongst one another about how many white relatives they have.Liberal Coloreds are the exception usually they don't act like other coloreds,in that they hang out almost exclusively with white people.[This must be where they picked up the bad habits]they tend to behave just like white liberals. As for Black People, they usually will interpret any criticism as indicative of racism in the critic, usually black people will then proceed to use racial slurs against the critic. However on the oft chance black people meet a real racist, they tend to take a more conciliatory tone.Black people like their white counterparts tend to segregate, and the only time they enter white clubs is when they are trying to pinch something.

See now that is the real deal.

My advice to you is to avoid walking in the streets by day or night because there are muggers everywhere, don't open your hotel room door for anyone or any reason, don't tell anyone you're American with dollars in your pocket. And for heaven's sake don't take your wife or children with you if you have any, there is a big probability that they may be raped or end up on somebody's dinner plate.
Otherwise good luck to you.

Is this the way to welcome a new visitor to this forum? You must learn some manners and etiquette. Give the man a chance to talk. In what way has he offended you? He is trying to be polite.

I think you must teach etiquette to Syd first, because I think he never heard of the word, Miss Bunni. Good day to everyone.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aries

Someone wants to go their own way today and they won't care whose feathers they ruffle in the process. It's a lunar eclipse at the Full Moon in Cancer, so let them get on with it. The last thing you should do now is to hang on to their coat-tails or do anything else that will make them feel restricted. Make it plain that you've got your own fish to fry, thank you very much. And try not to let it stop you enjoying yourself. Have a great night!
