I was born into a Somali family unit, who are rich in the traditions, Islamic Religion and customs of African Somalian ancestors. I grew up in where human ill treatments were way of life. A habitat of the Unique Culture, home of Common language, house of Single religion, and people that you can not differentiate of their color, and people who have same physical shape, a group of people who divided up a sense of belonging with Tribalism a feel of common identity. But full of discrimination, Prejudice, and disrespect part of its nation based on their previous tribe legends norms and illogical mentality set of false belief. I was born as normal child as same as another babies, The discrimination started on as soon as I came out from the womb my mother as an innocent child I was thrown into hostile niche, I entered the new world crying, was I hungry, thirsty, frightened, frustrated? I do not know but I am sure, the people around me were laughing for joy and congratulating to my father and my mother because I was born from the society who values the boys more than girls, why? However, As soon as I was born, the Somalis announced this word "the new midgan boy was born" I was attached with the stigma of being Midgan, sub-human by the eyes of somali majority, for the result of this stigma, I was enforced to feel agony and painful of discrimination. After I reached 5 years old I questioned my self why and how I am different from my age groups? I could not able to figure out the answer. So whenever some one who calls me that name ”Midgaan” I feel sadness because I do not deserve to be degraded and labeled abusive name I used to feel anger because that name hurts my feelings. Anger, sadness, pain, and frustration were became part of my daily life since I was five years old. Somali children do not stop calling me that name. who told them that I am Midgan? did they know me that I'm Midgan before they were born? they were innocent too as I was. what was my reaction; I started fighting, yelling, and arguing, Scratching their faces, punching, wrestling and hurting them physically but they hurt me psychologically and physically, I have gained double pain but fighting with them gives me something that is, I felt relieved after I threw away all my anger, for them it is for fun, for me, It is very serious and painful. It seemed to me that I refused to accept the inferiority status because I believed that I was not born to be inferior for them and I was born to be free. I am sure, I am equal to them neither they are not superior nor I am not inferior but we have to be same as long as we have same biologically organs. I looked at them and then looked at myself, we are same, we all have a heart, lungs, brain, and the like. we are also literally made of same stuff: water, salt, flesh , blood, bones, soul and so on. Our desire to seek pleasure and to avoid pain in common to us all: all of us tried to avoid physical discomfort. should we experience pain, we all suffer in much the same way. the wound to the arm of somali children is much like a wound to my arm but I am Midgan person, why? we feel same pain of insult as emotional damage in our honor and human nobility, we also seek emotional pleasure and flee injury to our feelings. I have figure out academically that we are alike, all of us regardless of our tribe or color or culture, all of us we face four fundamental issues. First, Every one realizes at some point that life is finite: we will not go on, at least in our present form, forever. Second, Each of us discovers some what early in life that we are isolated from all other human beings. the envelope of our skin separates us so that no one knows our true internal states. Third, all of us are thrown into a world that forces us to make choices. in the face of peer pressure and cultural and legal constrains, we have to make choices every instant for our lives, the choices we made can effect our long term lives. I chose not to Accept inferior status.

We have a Madhibaan person on this website, called INSEARCH_OF
She learned to live with it because 'it' wasn't anything other than what other Somalis said. She knew she outranked anyone who discriminates, she knew she was better than the people who segregate Somalis from each other based on the backward idea of clanism.
We shall move forward and not accept such values, we are above that.

As the only African in a class of white majority I too experienced a great deal if exoticism and colorism already during pre-school. Even though I didn´t have the vocabulary to name the process,I knew it was something odd and abnormal. So, yes you can.

In no way are you different in my eyes and in no way are you different from the rest of the people in the eyes of Allah.
It's sad, it's painful it's ignorance, it's racism, it's inhumane' and it's unislamic for somali us somali people to discriminate our own fellow somalis just because they are qabiil x,y or z.
One day that discrimination will come to an end, everything starts from somewhere and ends somewhere. You see i have eaten chicken that was not slaughtered according to the Islamic way did anyone call me a midgaan because literally i ate a dead chickens meat? No, we somalis specially those of us from the so-called big4 qabiils are the worst somalis and muslims i guess because we are carrying on a systematic racism for years and years.
Midgaan people are more skilled than any other person from the rest of big 4 qabiils people. Has their skills been overlooked because the big 4 qabiils are not as xariif as the midgaan people. Yes i would say.
I think i should become an anti racist campaingner to wipe out this systematic racism that is practice in somaliland by starting to inter marry with gabooye people, they women look so beautiful man, i am telling you.
Back in hargeisa i had so many gabooye friends and i never one day ever thought they were an indifferent to me. we used to sit next to each other at at intermediate school, but older somalis are the ones spreading hate.

I´m not saying, that´s you believe. But many ppl say "we shouldn+t discriminate against them, they are so hot".

What you wrote is a very sad reality that exist and both the victims and the perpetrators know it but unfortunately they are not aware of its bad consquence as society and nation. I do understand your feeling and how bad it is to recieve all this discrimination in your own country , from your own people who are your blood and flesh. It is a stigma that you don't have an option to escape from it. I sometimes ask myself what could I done if I was the victim of this prejudice? Finding answer for this question is very difficult, for the perpetrators are my people and place is my country!!! Therefore, it is a fate that the victims are dealing with it apart from its psychological effect on the victims. What really upset me is the name " midgan" it is a kind of psychological warfare to cause fear and anxiety to victims. I am optimistic that this culture will fade one day and we will be equal as Somalis. Let me sieze this opportunity to mention the quality of the Madhibaan people which other Somalis are just now recognising after they have fleed their country and saw what the other nations value. 1) Madhibaan people are very hardworking with thiftiness. 2) They are very intelligent and if they get a proper education they will be a great asset for the country. I have never seen a stupid one!! 3) They are a very creative and craftman 4) Most of them are handsome and their women are so pretty . The coming Somali generation will break the cultural barrier and willingnessly embrace the equality of their brothers.

Good post, yes I have seen with my own eyes that Madhibaan people, survive better in the qurbaha because of the values they had within their own community back home i.e only by acquiring skills and getting knowledge will you survive, as opposed to the perpetrators who relied on their names to get ahead. I have never met a stupid Madhibaan, that´s why they always have my respect, no matter what.

True, it's terrible how some useless people can see themselves superior to others. man has always being cruel to man, but we take it to the next level. One love to my brothers and sisters viva madhibaan.
