Wow. That was really beautiful. It gives me hope that when I go back I won't feel like an outside. And maybe the youth from the west can help all of Somali turn into a first world country. Maybe not over night but some day. Inshallah.

the girl was so cool as she was being very productive with her time there, teaching little kids how to read and councelling battered local women. But the boys? They seem to like it there only because they can live a lavish lifestyle off the money sent by their UK based parents.

Zeynab I hate to say this but I agree with you here.

While it is great that these young folks are going back and at least learning about their heritage and culture, I don't get how at 20 you are not taking advantage of all the opportunity your parents provided.

WTF is the matter with the Somali youth?

Damn, when I was their age I had my head in my books. It wasn't easy lakiin, I ended up with multiple degrees and now a great career. It is easy to succeed in these Western countries! I'm not saying becoming millionaires or anything, but being able to get an education and create a life for yourself!.

I have four siblings and all of us have been able to get our education and get careers going.

The UK is messed up! Somalis need to migrate out of the UK ASAP

LOOL

I think you will find Somalis in the UK are equally as ambitious as their counterparts in other countries.

I know what you mean. Some of us here in the west are just dying to do what she is doing. I think we could pass a law that protects women from that kind of treatment. They are banning fgm, so why not this? Although I thinkthink it's going to be a lot hard bc of social norms. But inshallah.

It is double trouble for Somalis in the west as they are black and Muslims with no state of their own judging the mess Somalia is in and Somaliland being isolated and unrecognised.

Even those who achieved a higher level of education often struggle alone, mostly becoming entrepreneurs of all sorts after tiring of sending their cvs.

So for a naive lot like the people under discussion, it is no surprising to see them in such a state.

Anyway, this whole thing is actually a tragedy considering the situation in Somalia and these 20 jiro having been in the UK where there is amble opportunity to succeed yet they don't even know a thing about their dhaqan or their af soomaali.
Waxay ahayd if they don't know anything about their dhaqan and language inay university graduate ahaadan by now but god forbade! As evident the boys are hopeless. I wonder whether this problem stems from just simple edebdaro at home.
We know 20 is not a new born baby. A day like today, people of that age should have been working to become medical doctors, engineers, accountants, scientists, dentists, lawyers, teachers, nurses, social workers, or what have you. It seems clear that this idea of 20 is young, in the west, has failed people.
the reason young somalis are'nt becoming successful is two reasons one is the home and two is the streets....somalis boys have two role models its the aabo or older brother , the aabo has no impact or influence in his son instead hes chewing in a marfish...the brother is even is worst selling drugs or in prison...as soon the kid reaches 15 hes already a ''gangster '' selling xashiish living the scarface dream...WELCOME TO THE UK !

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Virgo

It's a rather low-key day with a few disappointments to cope with along the way. If you were looking forward to a social event, such as meeting up with friends, it may fail to live up to your expectations. It might even be delayed or postponed through no fault of your own. There could also be problems about how much something is going to cost, forcing you to scale down your plans to make them more affordable.
