Singapore's leaders are a confused bunch. They grew the economy by exploiting the people.
They control every aspect of the life of the people. After all Singapore is just a small piece of rock. This would not be acceptable in other Asean countries.
While other developed countries have moved on to high tech industries, Singapore's leader have resorted to cheap foreign labourers to attract investments.
Any authoritarian regime can grow its economy by squeezing every drop of blood from the people but to do it in a democratic environment where the people have rights is much more difficult.
Peace.

Singapore led ASEAN

In economic and global-trade expertise...., YES and why not...? ;))

In political sense.... hmm.... unlikely....
SIN hardly a true democracy, but IMO better than some of ASEAN countries. ;))^^v

Anyone think Singapore is such a great place, please come here and get citizenship. The government is handing out Singapore passports as freely as a prostitute hands out condoms to her customers.

These schemes are designed to support and enhance a political infrastructure where power is concentrated in a select few. If all this seems like social engineering at work, that’s because it is. Mr. Lee has never been shy about his intentions to rear future generations of elites.

hazel, you really don't want Singapore to lead Asean unless you happen to be a chinese elite.

SG can only impart successful economic model to ASEAN rather than leading ASEAN in other fields.

Politically, SG is no true-blue democracy, so it cannot preach democracy to ASEAN members.

Socially, SG do not have any significant impact on cultural wise, only offering urban lifestyle that is also available in Jakarta, Metro Manila, Bangkok & even KL.

Militarily, well, SG kinda tied down with US of A & NATO allies, some bilateral military training here & there, but that's it.

Leading a bunch of different political ASEAN nations needs an iron will, something that SG has often shy away.

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Capricorn

Self deception will be the main issue today. You may be judging your situation wrongly: don't hold back, say what you think diplomatically and without being hurtful. This should result in a positive mental outlook for you. Competitive sports activity will ease any stress or tension.
