THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT RACE TO ADOPT CHILDREN IF THEIR INTENTIONS ARE TO BE NURTURING AND POSITIVE IN THE CHILDS LIFE. VERY SELDOM DO YOU FIND AFRICAN-AMERICANS THAT ARE WILLING TO ADOPT OTHER AFRICAN AMERICANS, THEY WANT TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THEIR "TROUBLE". I KNOW LOTS OF AFRICAN AMERICANS THAT HAVE FOSTER CHILDREN AND HAVE REFERRED TO THE CHILDREN THEY CARE FOR AS "THEIR PAYCHECK". IT MAKES ME CRINGE TO HEAR THAT COMING FROM PEOPLE ESPECIALLY WHEN SOME OF THE PEOPLE ARE CONSIDERED TO BE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE CLOTH. I TOTALLY SUPPORT DIFFERENT RACE ADOPTIONS, WHEN ALL THAT'S REALLY DIFFERENT ABOUT ANY OF US IS THE COLOR OF OUR SKIN, THE COLOR OF OUR CHARACTER DEPENDS ON WHOSE RAISING US AND WHAT WE'RE BEING TAUGHT. 1 Good intenions are good intenions however, being cautious about mega 'rich''celebrities' being able to just 'adopt' kids like on some kind of shopping spree carrying the latest and most expensive designer bag, unquestionly is cause for concern. I am mixed and physically stand out, I wasn't adopted but it wasn't that long ago someone of my colour was considered a 'freak'. Things are changing but I still think it is much more difficult for 'Black' people trying to adopt a lighter skinned child. These 'celebrities' are portrayed erroneously by the media as 'charitable' they are not. Mixed kids have existed for generations, These 'celebs' take more money in a week than most people would earn in a lifetime, for doing relatively less. The reality of the situation is most 'non-white' people are not in a financial position to adopt however much they would want to. The idea of a 'non-white''adopting' or 'caring' for 'white people' as many actually do is not portrayed in he same way by the media. Is it possible for an Afican to give charity? Of course as much as anyone else. It comes from the heart not from the bank. |

Not sure what most of you are talking about but what better opportunity for a change in life fortune than being adopted by a celebrity. The people who are speaking out against the practice as if there is some kind of philosophical reason that they disagree, What are you going to take care of this desperately poor children with no other chance or opportunity in life. Whatever perceives reason that you think the celebrities may or may not have factual or not, at least they are adopting from Africa. Who could deny that the baby that Madonna adopted, life have change forever. He now has a better access to education, Medicare and other opportunities that most of us would die for. Not only has his life changed but the residual effect is enormous. His African family I’m sure will benefit and his future kids and grand kid’s future will change forever. Who could deny that? SO I say please celebrities keep on adopting from Africa.

I have no objection to 'people' not 'celebrities' 'adopting 'African' kids or any other kids or showing interest. The accompanying portrayal of these 'celebrities' as 'philantropists' is quite sickening and a complete media distortion. They quite rightly give back to Africa some of the over indulgence and attention that they have been taking for years. Many people have preceeded them in adopting and in supporting within their own communities, or from non public professions without ackowledgement. As far as 'education' is concerned great as long as it is focused on the people who it is intended for and not centred around what great 'saviours' or Africa the likes of Bono and Madonna are, I think this would be an insult to many Africans. If they pick up 'awards' for this I think I'll puke. Also these African people are actually adopting and educating them too, show a bit of appreciation to the Africans. Oh and by the way all their 'fans' that paid for the priviledge of adopting them and who gave them their free giving charitable support to allow them to have their advantageous positions should be recognised and commended by them too. They have no right to preach to anyone about greed.

If you are not going to adopt a child yourself you have no reason whatsoever telling a child that they only belong to an orphanage. Children are not white or black, they are just children and they have the same needs regardless of their skin color. Most importantly they all need love and they will accept that love no matter where it comes from. So, unless you are willing to adopt a child, I think you need to shut up or put up.
In Africa many white kids are raised by blacks in the form of nannies. They never know their white mother and black mothers give raising their own kids to raise white children for money. Many of these black mothers treat these white kids as their babies and sometimes the babies think the actual mother is the nanny. So, to this proves that children don't care who gives them love so long someone gives them love. Adults are racist and children are not and children learn what they live. If they live with racists they will become one. |

I don't mind Caucasians for adopting children of other races but it seems more like a fad more than anything. First Angelina, then Madonna, and now Victoria. Angelina is a humanitarian and I believe she is truly sincere with here desire to help children of third world countries. But other celebrities I'm skeptical of becauses they seem like attention whores who just want to jump on the band wagon.

Isn't saying that white people can't adopt black children perpetuating racism? Why does it matter? Is it better for a child to die in an orphanage? I hope to one day live in a world where it does not matter what color your skin color is. Call me naive but that is my true prayer. Jesus calls us to look after orphans and poor people. He does not care what color the help comes from.
