Hi! I'm new here and also I'm very interested in Seychelles, so I'd like to ask some questions - if possible, to any Seychellois:
1. Does Victoria have a bus/underground line?
2. How many island are there, and how many out of are inhabitated?
3. How does look the tax system?
4. What's the price of standard daily things-to-buy?
5. What does the standard Seychellois eat for his/her meals?
6. Do Seychelloises live in a blocks of flats or separated houses?
7. Is there any cinema or theatre? If is, where and what's its name? Does it show good films?
8. Is there a hospital on each island?
9. How many Seychellois TV station are there and is there any possibility to receive a TV via satellite?
10. What are the names of Seychellois daily papers?
11. Do Seychellois people sleep in beds or any kinds of strawy mats or something?
12. Do Seychelles have its own country's travel line - as the non-islandic countries have its own railroad?
13. Is Creole widely used? Is it necessary to lodge on the islands? How many people use it?
14. What are the standard professions of Seychellois people? Do they work as fishermen or something, or rather as the office workers, managers, directors?
15. Would it be hard to the Westerner to find a job on Seychelles?
16. Are Seychelles a good place to live?

Thanks in advance for responding! I would be glad if you'd help
me!(If the responding message here would take too much space, you can even write me at sebastian.delekta@wp.pl - for me there's no difference)

I will try and answer your questions.
1. We do not have any trains. We do have a public bus service.
2. We have well over a hundred islands. But only 5 have a permanent population. The others have people who go and work there for a period on time. Some islands are very small and there is no activity on them.
3. We do have a tax system. mainly business tax and GST.
4. The cost of living in Seychelles is higher than the other surrounding islands.
5. The traditional food is fish and rice but we do eat all types of food.
6. We mostly live in houses but some do live in small blocks of flats.
7. WE have two cinemas. They show the latest films from Europe and the USA.
8. We have four hospitals. However each district has its health centre. Heath services are available to the whole population.
9. We have one local TV station and one TV station from France TV5. Satellite TV can be received in Seychelles.
10. The Seychelles Nation is the name of the local newspaper. There are several weekly newspapers as well.
11. We sleep on beds.
12. Not sure what you mean by travel line. There is means of transport between the main islands.
13. Creole is the most widespread spoken language. English is used for the law and mostly for business. French is also used but not as much as the other two. Creole, English and French are the three national language.
14. We have all types of jobs.
15. To work in Seychelles a work permit is needed. It is not too easy to get a job but it depends on the job.
16. Seychelles is a nice place to live but like all countries there are both plus and minus aspects to living here.

Dear Sebastian, I guess you've got no idea of paradise, sorry for you, but your questions on the Seychelles are really funny, how about Internet for a change? and it seem to me that's it's you who is living on the moon seeing that you have collocated our lives before Noah's primordial floods. listen to me haul your travelling bag on your shoulder hitch hike until you reach the Seychelles with a one way go, cause you wouldn't want to go to the Poland again.

What ridiculous you have found in Sebastian's questions?
Absolutely logical and practical questions, from answers it is possible to receive the real information on life Seychellois. And it much more infromation than data from any tourist website.
I was on Seychelles and read much, but not on all these questions knew answers. Many thanks to Clive.
I do not know the name of daily newspapers in Rome, hence you will think, what I live on the moon?
Do you know, for example, how many to people lives in Russia? Is not present? Welcome to the moon:-)
For the information: Japanese, for example, have traditionally dinner sitting on a floor without use of a lunch table and do not use spoons and plugs. Though Japan is not the ancient country.
National traditions can be any, and sleep without use of a bed can not Tarzan only, but the civilized person too. And the Hollywood films show not in all countries. The theatre and the underground is not in each "civilized" city, etc. These details also wanted to find out Sebastian.
If you ask me: whether there is in Saint Petersburg a river transport? I shall not laugh and ask "you were born yesterday? "
I shall simply answer.
Once again thanks to Clive for that.

No answers to your questions but if you are investigating the possibilities to live or work there: DON'T GO!!!
Horrible regulations they don't even fully understand themselves. Just do not go! There are better possibilities, so to speak: real countries.

Dr.Fripper you say just dont go! this also may be good help for no dissaapointing but if i look many pages concern the Seychelles so many people says that Seychelloises are nice and very warm people rules may be horrible in some way but so many foreigners especially europeans are dream abt Seychelles not only as a tourist but to live in there if you know the truth abt Seychelles whcic is we can not find out on the web sites please share it for sake of the people who are same as me who are dreaming to live there and everyone is has his/her opinion abt life but i am sure we Seychelles lovers are not looking for any hustle bustle life we need a good nature and good people thats all we want and Seychelles is seems offering all this kind of things i am living in the island with a population only 7000 and its only 25 minutes by ship from istanbul but unfortunately here also i can not find the luxury of the nature and Seychelles is no way top compare with anypart of the World !(i am a seaman for 19 years old and sailed whole word unfortunately except Seychelles) up to now approximately collected 140 MB data on the net abt Seychelles data sheets opinions tourist reports fhotos etc. i understand the situation is so difficult there because Seychelles is like a new born baby how can you expect from a baby act as a adult ? and if one is love something there nust be no any condition abt the love love must be pure and i love the Seychells and want to do anything anything even collecting garbages from the beach in the early morning to help to develop of Seychells . Some peole are saying Seychellois are rude and they behave so brutal to foreigners i dont believe that and please read all the forums and see how people loving there and Doctor as you mentioned ''real countries'' what is that ? our tv is full with a horror news from the real countries but no one says anything about Seychelles why you think ? anyhow if you had any bad experience in there please share it with us and please help me to resolve the problems which i can face in there Any people from Sesel i need your opinions too and you Seseloises and we Sesel lovers must be work hardly to change any bad imagination or decicion abt SEEL ...

To all those who dream of the Seychelles,
It's a great country to visit for a holiday, but living and working there is completely different. Most Seychelloise don't get paid very much, so if your coming from a westernised country where your salary is good, be prepared for a wage cut. You may find it hard to save anything. Housing is relatively cheap, although rising, prices are more expensive if buy as a foriegner through an agency so visit and make contact with locals. 2-3 bed house can be picked up between £30-40,000 approx with land. Seycelles main industry has been tourism, although this has declined due to the fact that it getting more and more expensive to travel and stay there, tourists have to pay in Forex and can't use the local rupee to pay for things in a number of places, so why on earth do they have their own currency, its pretty worthless on the open market. The country is one of the most indebited in the world per head of population. Owes World bank lots of money and although its one of the most well off 'African' countries, the country is heavily subsidised.
Great beaches, most Seychelloise are friendly (but like anywhere good and bad), they love to drink and celebrate with barbeques, beach picnics or parties and a number of them brew baka the local homebrew which will strip your liver clean if you become addictited. Low crime rates, 1-2 murders a year, petty theft, some house break-ins. Most criminals don't get far as there is nowhere to go and get picked up pretty quickly.

Roads are windy and their driving can be dubious, lots of them never indicate when pulling up outside one of the many little boutiques, or just stop. Drink/driving is common. Beer is about £1 a go, spirits are expensive so bring your own, wine has become cheaper, although its not your chablis.

Work is varied but it really depends\on your skills, lots of poorly paid hotel jobs can work 6 days a week. Avereage wage about £400 -£700 a month.
Advice go for the experience for 1-2 years and form your own opinion. Life is not that easy for the average Seychelloise, so you may find it hard to stay permanently.
Politics - Depends on your view ofcourse, multi-party since 90's, although its really been a beneign dictatorship since independance and there is a culture of who you know and not what you know to an extent. I beleive most Seycehlloise the younger generation do want a change, but the opposition party isn't the best in the world, so its difficult to say which way the country will go.
Anyway great wildlife and fishing and for the single chaps, good looking ladies on the whole.

Go and enjoy!

Think again!!!! You must have left seychelles a long time ago grisgris!!!! Median house prices are anywhere from rs500 000 to a few million! most wages are about rs 2000 a month! you cannot convert that to pounds as the local currency has no value! It cannot be exchanged in any country in the world! and if you insist on comparing the local currency to the english pound, be realistic and use the black market rate at 20 to 1!

dear grigris, indeed, your name already say something, it brings me back in those dark days of the early settlers of Seychelles, pirates, fortune seekers, blackbirders, confines, slaves, magics from differents races with different dialects and customs, if you know all these things in their complex on the Seychelles, it can only mean that we must vote you to be our new Presidents or maybe and inter galatic Presidents. I never heard anyone discribe a Paradise with so bad unwanted pubblicy, I do hope that you live in Wonderland, their where everything is unpoluted, no robbers, no crimes, no tears, nothing,- wake this is the world jack - it was born without polution, guess who had it's degradation? I'll give you one euro for your thought. thank you meanwhile for degrading my country who had done you no harm I trust.

To all those who's having judgment on the Seychelles.

Pls leave these type of judgment to Seychellois living in the Seychelles like Clive did.
Who are you to judge the Seychelles from abroad. It's funny but as a Seychelles who is also living in the so called westernise world i can tell you that happiness i only found it in the Seychelles and the way the Seychellois live. In my material world money means a lot and love is only on sale.
I stand to be corrected

Hi Clive,
I saw your reply and it seems you are a native Seychellois...I also have a couple of questions...
I am looking around at various options for leaving South Africa...was thinking of entering the tourism industry in Seychelles, perhaps a guesthouse or boat charter service...howver I have seen some very negative comments on other threads ("Changing life - move to Seychelles" for example ) etc regarding govt. corruption etc...what would your comments be on this?
I have a family and want to leave here because of violent crime etc but don't want to make a big mistake either! So was just wondering if you could give me your take on the pro's vs cons etc
Thanks a lot in advance !
Keep well
