1,700,000 + 950,000 = 600,000 for entire Jugoslavija

The first post war population census in Yugoslavia was not conducted until March, 1948, and its results were not analysed until 1951, a fact noted by researchers in the US Bureau of Census as early as 1954. Yet the Yugoslav government reiterated these figures and broadly disseminated them to the West on the occasion of the 1947 meeting of Allied Reparations committee in Paris.

HOW these figures were generated became clear only in 1989, following the revelations by the individual who actually produced them. That person was Vladeta Vuckovic, then a twenty-four year old sophomore at the Institute of Statistics in Belgrade. In March 1947, he was ordered to calculate the number of war victims in Yugoslavia in order to provide information requested by the Allied Reparations Committee for war reparations claims against Germany.

Vuckovic was instructed that “the figure should be significant, but based on scientific statistics”.

Vuckovic understood that Yugoslavia was interested in the largest possible number of victims:

1. The figures were extrapolated in less than two weeks.



2. The 1.7 million figure included not only war deaths, but also what the country’s additional population would have been if there had been no war, and included the number of unborn children and deaths losses due to emigration and disease!



3. By 1963, the Yugoslav government, in official correspondence with Germany, revised its war losses to 950,000.



4. Germany subsequently requested verifiable data for the purpose of war reparations.



5. In 1964, the Yugoslav authorities conducted a detailed, nationwide survey.



6. The results yielded fewer than 600,000 victims of war for all of Yugoslavia.



7. This data was provided to Germany and declared a Yugoslav state secret, since they were one third of the number originally claimed.

Look at this way, in the 1990's half a million Serbs had been displayed ( many killed ) in the region of Krajina and surounding areas. Easy to see how much more damage the Croats had done with the Nazi war machine backing you.
