Wow. Sure makes it hard for me to feel any sympathy for the Japanese when things don't go their way. I understand that whaling is becoming more and more unpopular in Japan. Let's hope the internal forces in that otherwise high minded country can rein in this barbarism before international sentiment starts turning sharply against the entire country and culture of Japan again. Personally, I think it's better grounds for war than some of our recent military actions. Missi just asked me today why we have a Subaru, and I was going to defend that purchase. But maybe next time I'll think about the whales, and we'll buy a nice American car. Or a Korean. That would really hurt!

boycott anything japanese which is easier these days because almost all of our imports come from china. so the japs think environmental activists are "terrorists"? too bad the so-called terrorists don't have something more to throw at the whalers than smoke canisters and ropes. something like torpedoes.
Japs? Wow, get out of the 1950s. Once again come to the Tribune's forums to more blatant racist quotes than anywhere else on the net.

Nothing like killing a beautiful, complex creature for earwax...

Time to send a donation to Greenpeace. The Japanese whalers think they are terrorists? Wonder what the whales think of the whalers? Leave the "precious resource" alone.

They need 50 for testing? Gosh, I dunno, but that sure seems like way more than needed for testing. And just what does human science need to gain from this "testing?"
As the article states, they won't know where the whales came from as they "take" them (that could pose great harm for certain pods). Perhaps the stomach contents will reveal that... and that's why they're after such a large haul for testing? My question: what good is the "testing" doing for the whales? There seems to be only human desire & curiosity being satisfied here, if not human greed as well. Masking it under the guise of "science" is pretty lame.

What can we do besides sending funds to Greenpeace?...Boycott Japanese restaurants and Sushi. And buy Korean.

I love my Hyundai Sonata. If they make a nice Hyundai HYBRID when we're ready for our next car purchase, even better.

And I suppose you don't eat meat or fish? Only plants? Oh, my, I can hear the corn and beets crying as you rip their roots out of the ground? Get serious.

YOU get serious, idiot. No one is comparing a plant to an intelligent and sensitive and creature of awe such as a whale. I think the beets and corn are smarter than you.

That was dumb! Whales are the only creatures in the sea? We are talking about an endangered specie. And maybe the person making quote does not eat fish or meat.

The only thing it will hurt is your pocketbook when you have to try driving one of those pieces of crap for a number of years. I had 8 years of back luck with two different Fords and I will never buy an American car again. Honda all the way!

The Japanese absolutely have a right to hunt the whales. It is their cultural right. Who are we to tell them what they can and can not eat? What if Japan told us to stop eating veal? What if Japan told us to stop eating fois gras? I wish Japan luck and success on their whale hunt.

Tough one. I love sea food, however, I'm keen that my sea food is substainable. Killing wales as the Japs do is wrong. But, if it's done in a substainable way then that's OK.

Whale meat is good tasting. Do not knock it, but try it round eyes.
