Why are Puerto Ricans always stealing music from other countries?

Plena, Bomba, Aguinaldo and Seis are musical genres I've always identified with Puerto Rico. While Seis orginally came over from Andalucia, the way it's played in Puerto Rico bears little to no resemblance. The instruments added to Seis make it distinctly Puerto Rican. Bomba is heavily influenced by African music... but it's a Puerto Rican musical genre. Plena has been played all over the world, but Puerto Rico is credited with its origin. I don't think Aguinaldo is played by any other culture.

And... let's not pick on Cuba either. That country is rich with culture and arts. Look at the rest of Latin America. Most of these musical traditions weren't born exclusively in the countries most known for them.

While I love Salsa and Merengue; Plena, Bomba, Aguinaldo and Seis make up the Puerto Rican sonic landscape. Let's not forget... Don Hector started his life as a jibaro. He was listening to and singing Musica Jibara.

Yeah... I just read it. I watched a PBS documentary on "Salsa" and Tito Puente last year (or the year before). I think it was part of the American Masters series. It covered a lot of what Dave shared.

One thing left out of the documentary, but touched-on by Dave, is the fact the Beboppers LOVED Latin music. There are many structures in the music of Davis, Parker and Coltrane which were lifted directly out of the Puerto Rican/Cuban New York scene. Miles Davis went on record (many times) saying as much. And, to take it a step further, the Mods of the UK worshipped the Beboppers. They emulated their style and their musical styles. So that says what?

And, as stated in Dave's post, Puerto Rico serves as the world's defacto in-road to Latin America. It only makes sense Puerto Rico would be credited with many styles of music which aren't (technically) Puerto Rican.

To draw another parallel, there isn't a train in the world which is owned by a graf writer. But trains are known for sporting graf. The writer leaves his mark on every car moving throw his city. Cubans and Puerto Ricans got together... combining their musical heritage and cooked up "Salsa". Don Tito didn't like the term, but he came before that movement. Much like the reaction Jazz first pulled out of the classical music stuffe shirts.

Does that mean Bomba and Plena are also stolen? I've heard many say that Puerto Ricans steal their music. Why is that a common belief? I don't get it!

Then Came Panama; Puerto Ricans, as uncreative as they are, went to Panama, took the local Reggaeton music and made it into their own now NOONE associates Reggaeton with PAnama (although that's actually a good thing) and now they associate it with that's right! Puerto Rico.
Now more recently is Dominican Merengue (lucky for the domincians, puerto ricans have no interest in Perico Ripiao); the uncreative puerto ricans are now trying to exploit Dominican music and call it theirs. It's already happening:

As a Cuban, I refuse to support Puerto Rican salsa music and choose to listen to Cuban "Salsa" or Son.
I think Cubans, Dominicans, Venezuelans and Panamanians should work together and riot Puerto Rico. In my opinion; Cuba, DR, Venezuela and Panama are the low-key brothers who work hard while Puerto Rico is the dead-beat, cocaine-addict brother who hasn't worked a day in his life and just mooches off of the government and takes the credit for what his more prosperous brothers have done.
You Puerto Ricans are evil, you have a fast yet monotone accent when you speak spanish and have a lust for stealing music.
