Jesues Dave, if one thing Puerto Rican state side or island side its NOT lacking in, its expressing they are Puerto Ricans. That has been Shoved down the American throats forever Decades. Their Over Expressing Themslves has created a HUGE problem for decades!!!!.
The rest of Americans think "SHUT UP, ENOUGH ALREADY' Jesus why are you people so insecure in Mass and paint a target on your back. Because of this and the blacks having to be called "Africans Americans" it SEPARATES the Puerto Ricans form America, because publicy your constantly reminding NON Hispanic Americans you WONT ACCEPT the Country and assimilate to blend in which if the Puerto Ricans were smart they would see WHY the blacks aren't like because of their being against assimilating into America.
Puerto Ricans have two sets of rules. They say I'm American to get the handouts but after the checks cashed its back to
Viva I'm Puerto Ricn...
Want Respect as an American, then show your an American first 24/7 that just happens to be Puerto Rican. Ding Ding..
Hate to tell you this but Most Americans doesn't have a Clue weather you a Mexican or a Puerto Rican. To cover that your called Hispanic.
Hello there idiot. May I remind you that America was discovered thru puerto rico. Second, America is a big continent, so we are all americans. you are people from the united states there for free people, because I recall that the united states of america is a free land. In other words shut the fuck up or else. By the way i'm from Puerto Rico and I love hamburgers.

LOLOL Are you serious? Boricuas come in every shade under the sun. White? no. Black? no. Taino? No. A mix? Absolutely. It doesn't matter what you fill out on paper, it's in the blood lines. You must have never been to your own island before. That is a damn shame if you haven't.

There is no reason for you to look down. Or feel ashame, like I mentioned before, there is good and bad people everywhere, of course that doesnt justify our country.
There is one thing you need to learn and is that, calling americans to those who are from the USA only, like the rest of us out there in PR, Mexico, and Argentina for example are not americans.
USA have learned things wrong they are mistaken not you, next time they tell you, you are not an american remind them that AMERICA IS A CONTINENT, so you live in america, YOU ARE AN american.
We as puertoricans are more american that those who tell you you are a puertorican inmigrant, dont they remember, how they arrive to the usa??, either from African or Europe, so they are inmmigrants too so they are not americans??, you are a puertorican born and raised, that means you were born in America, so why looking down. The real american in the case of the USA are the indians.
I am an american because I was born here, in the american continent, I am a puertorican, but I am also a USA citizen, just like them whether their racism blinds them. So why are you looking down???.Feel proud of who you are they are the ignorants.
If they tell you we dont pay taxes, tell them we do pay them here, and we dont have the same benefits as the other states, so why pay just like them??? Remind them that they invaded us in 1898, it was their choice not ours. I love the USA, but dont you ever let anyother person make you feel any less.
I love your post. I was with you except the comment about Africans. They WEREN'T immigrants at all. And unfortunately most of them don't even know where they come from so in my opinion they are more American than we are. America is all they know, they didn't have a choice. I personally think that all Puerto Ricans SHOULD pay federal taxes. I don't think it is fair that 45% of the population on the island receives some kind of federally funded aid (25 billion dollars in 2010) but they don't pay federal taxes. I'm not proud of the way this makes us look lazy and like we cannot provide for ourselves. If the taxes I pay go to an island that doesnt do the same, I would be pissed too.

Now I'm sure you get treated back in Philippines like we do in Puerto Rico. If you weren't born on the island and/or don't live on it then your not Filipino just like we're supposedly not Puerto Rican and we're an American. But then folks don't want to admit that we're american either.

I say; to hell with both: I'm Nuyorican.

With me it's a love hate relationship with all Puerto Rico.

I love the folks that aspire and strive for better because it helps others to have someone to look up to and it opens the doors to see us differently.

But I hate those who act like hood rats and just want to blame everyone else because they have no aspirations and act just like those fellow Black American brothers and sisters who enslave themselves through their mentality.

Ghetto is not where you live its a state of mind!

Well I am a proud American from Puerto Rico and believe me, I have seen some pretty ugly babies here in the island, starting with my own family...LOL

I, for starters, was not the most beautiful or even the cutest, my sister (on the other hand) would have made any Johnson and Johnson promo....or even Gerber....LOL

I am american and I live in Puerto Rico. I am going to say this and not TO ALL BUT THE MAJORITY OF people born in USA with Puertorican roots, never been to PR and lots of them (not all as I said) are a very bad representation of what is a Puertorican. We are judged by what USA citizens see in USA while is a big difference between the ones born in there. Americans shouldnt hate us because we are part of them. Like I have said before in this forum, is plenty of Puertoricans that have moved to USA and are all professionals: doctors, attorneys, engineers and lots of military men that been honored and represented USA.

Most Americans don't hate Puerto Ricans, is just ´good ol' regional and cultural differences....like it happens in every country around this green world of ours...some people just think that due to a number of reasons, they are just better than others...so don't take it at heart....

That feeling of being "picked on" is part of our colonial mentality.

Let's move on!

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Gemini

You're in a warm-hearted and generous mood today, especially when dealing with loved ones and members of the family. You want to give them as much of your time as possible, and also to do anything else that will keep them happy. The only snag will come if you're trying to spread yourself too thin and you end up making promises that will be difficult, if not impossible, to keep. You may forget all about them but other people won't.
