This maybe a bit of a long story, but I'm hoping that someone with knowledge and swing may be able to assist me.

I was born of Portuguese parents who were never registered at the Civil Registry in Portugal and unfortunately both have deceased. My mother did have a Portuguese passport, however after taking this to the Portuguese Consulate in South Africa, they couldn't still couldn't find her Portuguese registration. They informed me that back in 1948 (when the passport was issued)Portuguese passports were given without any registration being required. As a result, and according to what I was told by the Portuguese Consulate office in South Africa, my parents were never Portuguese, and therefore I'm not entitled to get a Portuguese Passport.
I have all the documentation dating back to my grandparents on both sides of my parents with proof of my ancestry.

One of the reasons for me trying to get my Portuguese passport so desperately is that I'm an IT consultant who travels the world trying to market my skills, and as of recent I'm finding that traveling with a South African passport is prohibiting me from obtaining work.

If anyone out there has ideas or has been in a similar situation please let me know.

If your parents were PTs, there must be a birth registration in the Freguesia (county) where they were born. You must know where were they born, so as to ask for birth certificates. If you prove that at least one of your ancestors is Portuguese, it's yeasier fior you to get the nationality, but I think you must live in Portugal a few years and speak the lingo fluently.

I'm the opposite. I'm trying to get a United States passport for my son. He was born in Portugal and I'm a U.S. citizen. He doesn't speak either language.

He is less than two years old. I only speak to him in Portuguese but he answers, "NO!" My soon to be wife only speaks Portuguese. A mountain girl from outside of Porto.

Interesting that the funny accent of Porto, sounding like a drunkard, happens because of a slight English influence. The Port wine started to be produced by English expats in the XVIII cent.
You know that the English language is the only one in the world with so many diphtongs: aw, ow, ei, ai, specially the standard British English.

People from Porto tent to put diphtongs in all the vowels the pronounce: "Aw Pawrto ei muito bau", while southern Portuguese, specially from the Algarve eliminate the diphtongs.

Ha! I had a brasilian accent when I arrived in Porto. I couldn't even order a beer. You are correct. People in Portugal sounded like they were drunk slurring all their words together. Now I do it. I listen to a Brasileiro and I wonder, "did I sound like that?"

But if you go to Lisbon, the Algave or the islands you'll notice that the accents are quite different from each other and from the northern accent.

The Brasileiros speak very slow and clear. They sing their phrases. they speak with alot of respect. There is a difference in the mountain accent compared to the city accent in Vale de Cambra. Go to Youtube and look up Herman Jose in Vale de Cambra. Hilarious

I am born in 1970 in Anjuna in Goa. Both my parents are now deceased. I have my father's old Portuguese Passport. I want to apply for Portuguese Nationality and Portuguese Passport in Goa. Can someone advise me on the process? I would also like to know a good agent in Goa who can help me in all my paper work, translation and attestation. Any information is welcome.

Thanks

Rhea,
Do not apply by an agent. I have friends who did it and are in a big mess. Why don't you contact a lawyer in Portugal. A friend of mine has a good lawyer with contacts in Goa, and seems to be really professional. If you want I can get the details.

Daily Horoscope for December 8

Aries

You're feeling practical and sensible today, so it's great for getting on with some of the Christmas preparations. The idea of saving money appeals to you now, and if you're browsing around the supermarket looking for festive food you might be so horrified by some of the prices that you decide to make your own instead. This will give you a real feeling of satisfaction.
