This is reported By Harry the Horse website this past Jan.

My Filipina Girl Friend and I were walking down the street on Del Pilar, Manila……..about 8 pm. People were around us and all seemed normal……when a nice looking Van pulled up beside us….NO LICENSE plates……….two guys dressed in Police Uniforms……NO NAME TAGS….the driver stayed in the VAN…..with the other one asking us for “I D”? He had a flash light and was acting very angry at us….”you two had too much to drink”,“where you staying”,“how do you know each other”, etc? I told him my I D was at the Hotel and that is where we are going. He told me “TO GET INTO THE VAN”….and that “He had something very important to tell me”. He told my Girl Friend to leave or she would be arrested? They wanted me. My girlfriend told them both NO….and that if they “had a case against us” then arrest us now. We walked away with the guy yelling angry insults at us……
I found out from a honest source that “hit vans” are driving around Manila/Ermita…abducting “white people” for kidnapping, ranson, fast money, etc. If you don’t pay, they kill you. People this happened to me….please be careful. Matt.

This happened near the Swagman Hotel by the U.S. Embassy. It is dangerous here and open season on tourist.

kinda scary huh?

with the possibilities of a military coup and marshall law , whats you feeling on if this would happen ?

what would be the affects on expats here?

people here far out in the prov say nothing has ever happened to them in these situations. only the military is present everywhere, which we all see now during elections anyway.

Anyone is crazy to go anywhere near Manila.
I have never even landed there, much less been in the city.
The provinces of Visays (not Cebu city) are just fine for any expat.

Western Mindanao would also be bad for most anyone, unless you are a Muzie.

It is not so much that you will get mugged or killed, even though it is more likely there then anywhere else, but you live in high congestion, hot weather, air pollution, and whatever else that is typical of a very big city.
Granted, there are some that thrive in that type of environment, but
certainly not for me.

I heard that you have some problems with the muslims comunity.

MILF jihadists ( Moro Islamic Liberation Front ) admit responsibility for killing 19 soldiers who intruded on "their" territory.

Cand you tell me please more informations about the muslims actions in your country ?
Thank you

Not sure but I know corruption really takes off under a coup. If PNOY declares martial law to clean up it won't be so bad unless factions go to war.

The Muslim trouble is pretty much limited to the far western
parts of Mindanao.
I am on Cebu, and in three years here have yet to see a Muslim.

By the way, I spent summer of 2004 in Cluj :)

I never said there are not nice people and areas of Manila.
I said that I would not live there, and would not advise it to
someone, other then a big city high pressure type of individual.

I have many friends who are quite familiar with Manila, including
my girlfriend who has worked there.
They pretty much concur.

Cebu Island is much more laid back and is rated by Travel and Leisure Magazine as the third best island in all of Asia.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aries

It won't be long before you start to feel bored today, unless you can distract yourself - you're switching from one activity to another. Ideally, you should keep yourself amused by doing something that's unusual or challenging, otherwise you'll be tempted to stir up trouble just to see what happens next! Even though you know that's a bad idea, you won't be able to resist, unless you've got something better to do with your time.
