Philippine education ranked 'poor'

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines ranks a poor seventh among nine Southeast Asian nations in the area of education and innovation, Guillermo M. Luz, co-chairman of the National Competitiveness Council (NCC), said.

At a forum on Innovation and Entrepreneurship for a Globally Competitive Philippines on Tuesday, Luz presented the disturbing results of the 2010-2011 Global Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum, which showed that the Philippines only fared better than Cambodia, among the eight Southeast Asian countries that were surveyed in the fields of education, science and technology and innovation.

In the area of primary education, the Philippines ranked 99th out of 138 economies. The Philippines ranked 69th in educational system, 112th in science and math, and 76th on Internet access.

In all categories, the Philippines was falling behind Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

I pity those who work for a different country just to provide meals on their tables.It is indeed a great sacrifice being away from their families.

I'm so tired of these Filipino nurses. They are back stabbing, mean, rude, liars, and unfair. This is America! Be thankful you have been allowed in this country! I am able to get along with all kinds of people, except for these stupid Filipino nurses. I have met about a hand full of them that are actually kind and have character. And most of you come here and think you are better then other races. Haha, you come from the gutter. You are not better then anyone. Send them back to the garbage dumps where they came from.

I went to Olongapo today and just that ride I see nothing but garbage everywhere. Im planning to go back to the States twice a year now to get out of this open dump. My neighbor went to my island where I stopped camping because of the garbage Filipino's leave behind and it said it is worse than ever.

We reminisce when this was a tropical paradise before 1990. Now visitors come here for the first time and I'm ashamed when they say "this looks like a dump". Thank you Filipino's for making your country a cesspool.

sorry to say i have the same inclinations. i dont necessarily want to go back to the U.S., though i do go back once a year to enjoy the food and weather. i like winter in the mountains.
going to make another trip to japan and look around. im impressed by the japanese culture and their environmental policies . id say expensive , but worth it. i could live off of sushi.

I would have thought a man receiveing more than US$6000 per month could afford to live in a nicer area -have a nice car with a driver -not live in a rented place where he says he spent so much of his own money to fix and has to ride buses along with the whores, robbers and murderous people he loathes and dispise's.
Suggestion -next time you go to the USA buy a one way ticket.

Why aren't Americans blaming the darn politicians that are signing bills to bring them in? Why aren't we standing together as the CEO's Administrators of hospitals go to the Phillipines to bring them in? While our new American grads are pounding the pavement looking for jobs? Or even our experienced nurses with credible experience (in the USA) are looking for jobs. They take the Fillipinos because they are cheaper and passive. THEY WILL DO WHATEVER THEY ARE TOLD TO DO. But sad thing is, they lie!

yeah i agree with chicago comments if you don't ask? i have Filipina assistant nurse she is hardworking & trustworthy unlike some nurses from SEA they are brainless...

Smart business man. If you have it spend it well not me. Where I live is fine except for the robbers and murderous people I loath so much. If I ever do take a one way ticket back Ill make it my mission to turn in every illegal Filipino I run across, say a new hobby.

well don you cant take it with you so you may as well enjoy it.

There are no more visas for pinoy RNs. The RN shortage is over. There are now thousands of American grads of 2 year nursing courses. Pinoy RNs are schooled for 4 years and are BSNs, not associate degree holders. Pinoy RNs are no longer coming over as there are no more recruiters. One million pinoy RNs are marooned in the PH, paying to do volunteer work in exploitative hospitals. RIP to pinoy RN immigration to America.
