how safe is the philippines for american tourist

many stories are comming out of the philippines that americans are not safe anywhere there to travel!!! what is the real truth concerning american tourist traveling there??

of course it is not safe place for vacation.
you can get scammed anywhere in filipina!!
they just love americans if they show their green. and beware of filipina ho...you surely know what i mean. it is better to search online much about it.
btw,do you plan to go there to pick up your mail order bride?just asking

Americans are as safe in the Philippines as they are elsewhere. And communication is no problem, unlike in some Asian countries, especially INDONESIA. Filipinos are more fluent in the English language. Just look at the above posting.

mail order bride!!!!???? did i seem stupid when i made this post??? not!!! my friends were there 2 years ago they told me of the hooos. i am not interested in that. they had a great time there with the exception of manila where they said it is much to crowded. but in 2 years i know much has change

well i just need some honest feedback here!! i know the 2 that post above!! i have watched then for months, thnx for ur feedback on this. also i read all the forums and i c so many different opinions there. but very little from filipinos themselves. that concerns me!!!!!!

What you heard is true! They kill you for a nickel. Go somewhere else! If you don't want to die young!

You will be as safe as if you were in your mother womb or at least safer than in Baltimore. They are very nice people even if corruption and poverty permeates their society.

you think you have to be fluent to speak with ho??LOL please...they speak dollar language,right??English is a third language here. we don't really use it so much. besides most tourists usually buy small dictionary before they go vacation to foreign countries.

As someone who’s been here all my life, the Philippines is a very tourist friendly country. In the past, the peace and order situation is quite fragile but presently it is more stable with the exception of Mindanao. Anywhere else, it is pretty safe for any tourist or an American for that matter to visit tourists spots. We love Americans not because of their money but because Filipinos are very familiar with the Americans more than any other foreigners. If your worry is about the idea that Americans are hated because of the Iraq invasion, well it is fairly non-existent in the Philippines. And as far as I can remember racism has never been an issue with us.

been in the philippines 5 times in last 18 months i am english people really freindly i walk about on my own late at night no problem mind you only in small towns not major cities of which i have very limited knowledge. go there and help this wonderful country with its tourism.

i cannot understand really why such negative comment about my country.we pilipino are very simple people.we always give our best to others even we dont have to offer much..the hospitality of pilipino are unique...if you want to be respected you must respect others.simlpe like that.AMERICAN,EUROPIAN;ASIATIC ; OR other countrys are vey welcome in he philippines.for us doesnt matter where you come from when you behave like a person we really appreciate that manner.and you will see we will give our best too.

You're right. Don't come back here. It's funny that those who says they will never come to this country are those who have never set foot outside their own. Tourists can be robbed, waylaid, even murdered in the plushiest destinations in the world. Compared to other countries, ours is much, much safer. Sometimes, the crimes committed against foreigners here are committed by their own countrymen. Our hospitality is world renown. Those who had experienced it attest to this. Those who have not? The US government puts out warnings for tourists and business travelers concerning safety for US citizens when conditions warrant. Check the internet for pertinent safety concerns for the area you are planning to visit and/or take the advice of trustworthy locals.
