you tagalogs stop your imperial manila attitude. when you come to visayas you speak our dialect. not we speaking tagalog. when we are in manila, we speak tagalog, but when you come to our place, you still speak tagalog - YOU MUST ADAPT OUR DIALECT NOT WE WHO MUST SPEAK TAGALOG TO YOU. I don't believe that tagalog should be the national language, it should be English. how about us who don't speak damned tagalog or don't want to!!!

TAGALOG is a language of mediocre Filipinos or iskwaters/adiks. In here, we call tagalog-speakers as "hoi pollois". Tagalogs are the poorest english speakers. they speak crooked or pidgin english. but they are the most arrogant and mayayabang na pinoy. tulad ng mga taga laguna, cavite, bulacan, quezon province, rizal, quezon city and manila. example of tagalog-speakers who speak pidgin english or iskwater language are kris aquino, aga mullach, vilma santos, julius babao, charo santos, bong revilla, joseph estrada, chris escudero and other prominent figures.

Tagalog originally came from Taga-ilog, meaning people living by the river in pre-hispanic times. Now we see big changes in Tagalogs as well as in rivers like Pasig.

I disagree, not that I am tagalog because I am not, but the comment is a little racist, which I don't conform to.

AGREE or DISAGREE?

You're right Jose "taga-ilog" but no one among us knows who dwells along the rivers long before the Spanish period so we could never tell that there was smelly squatter along the river. Tagalog was first chosen to be our national language because it is spoken by many. It was later changed to Pilipino, now Filipino, because it was not accepted by non-tagalogs espcially the visayas.
We have many tagalog dialect which some differs from tones like in Batangas, Quezon, Bulacan, Zambales and other places, which so happen that Manila is at the center. With trades local and international, establishments of bigger income, Manila become the capital city of the Philippines. During the time or even before Marcos people from the provinces are longing to see or work in Manila up to present time. Once your son or daugther had seen or work in Manila you are so proud of him/her that awaits you even your neighbor to hear story what Manila looks like. That made poor "probinsiyano" that could not see Manila to look at the Manilenyos to be imperial and inferior people, especially when real Manileniyos visit a province with modern clothes, shoes and other things which was never seen before by promdi.
India has more or less 1,500 dialects which is one factor that made the country poor. We have around 150 dialects that looks like 150 teams competiting with each other. We should all respect that Filipino is our national language.
And we should be proud that in year 2000 according U.S. census bureau Tagalog was the 4th most spoken language in America.
So, whatever dialect you had or whatever province you came from, we Filipinos, should be united.

This kind of Discrimination is old history, nowadays it does not matter anymore in Metro Manila if you are from the province. I used to hear that kind of social discrimination from my Grandparents when I was a young kid but we, the X generation are different and open minded. I am not really bothered if my friends came from province or Mindanao or muslim and same with my friends too.
We should rejoice with our culture differences, nurture it cause its what makes each province unique, instead of saying the other province superior than the rest. So racist and bigot.
We should take pride of our roots where ever we come from, We are all Filipino. Our country is too small, Why need to put so many walls of prejudice?

I grew up in the barrio and went to high school in the town. having experience the prejudice of the superior minded towns kids i know better than to be condescending to anyone. The towns kids makes derogatory remarks about the barrio kids. I would just love to see them on a re-union now and compare the towns kids to the barrio kids i know. Things are not permanent, humility is the anti dote for humiliations.

Not all of those who are "inferior, smelly squaters living in shanties" are tagalogs. Majority of which are from the Visayan regions (Samar, Leyte, etc.) hunting for jobs in Manila. I hail from the Visayas but it's not fair to racially discriminate the Tagalogs.

Right, tagalog originated in eastern visayas and northeastern part of mindanao, but proof of manuscript was later found in Laguna.

They called it the tagalog script in baybayin, probably native language erased by Spaniards. Reason why we don't have our own alphabet instead we have latin alphabet.
The word tagalog is indigenous to the islands while bisaya is also used by people in Sarawak derived from Sri-Visayan Empire.

In Davao being a virtual melting pot of peoples from almost all regions, regionalistic attitudes are synonymous to narrowmindedness and stupidity.

superiority complex is an individual moment to moment occurence. how can a tagalog feel superior if you look like fernando poe, have a girl friend like susan roces and have a wallet to match. c'mon! if you feel outgunned accept it. so long as you dont get bullied off. bullies are the worse people to be around with.

There's nothing you can do against Tagalog or Filipino 'coz it's our National Language.

Cristine, you said, "Tagalogs are the poorest english speakers",I am Ilonggo but read my story.

A father and son came to Manila from visayan province. The son said, "tatay, gusto kong sumakay ng trisikol", the father angrily heat his son's head and said,"Sabi ko sa iyo yung KOL gawin mong KEL." Then after an hour the son saw an ice cream and said, "'tay, bili tayo ng popsikol". He was heat again very hard in his head by his angry father who always says, "sinabi ng yung KOL gawin mong KEL, eh". Since the poor son was hit in his head by the fist of his father, he just said, "tatay tuloy nagkaroon ako ng BUKEL". That's supposed to be BUKOL.

In reality, English is the national language in the Philippines, Tagalog is the nominal national language. When one speaks good english there, he's usually branded as well-educated, but when one speaks good-tagalog in public speech, he becomes 'regionalistic', 'divisive' and 'old-fashioned'.
