To my peeps back home in Cataggaman Pardo, Tuguegarao City...I miss you all, i'll be home in a month. To the Tigers and the Dominicans, the 2 basketball teams of Cataggaman, I'm hoping you'd accomplish what I failed to taste during my basketball years, the Mayor's Cup crown..

I wonder when will Cagayan ever get to be known as Cagayan and not Cagayan Valley. Cagayan Valley is Region 2. If you're referring to the province where Tuguegarao belongs, please drop the "Valley"..We're the true Cagayan, forget about Cagayan De Oro..I'm sick and tired of having my province play second fiddle to CDO..

@jonathan
You're right. I think that's why the media and some government officials are trying to attach the word "north" to it as an attempt for political correctness. I think it sounds great but until they make it official and change the name into Cagayan North through act of Congress I hope people would realize that our province is the original Cagayan and that we've been known as such since the 1560's. I can't seem to comprehend how ignorant these people are who call the province Cagayan Valley [though I still love the region as a whole] and those who can't distinguish the province from CDO.

True Cagayanos are Ibanags (from the word "Bannag", meaning "river". They settled along the Cagayan River up to the Province of Isabela. Ilocanos are migrants from the Ilocos region. They settled in the northern towns or what we call down-stream towns. Ibanags have easily mastered the Ilocano dialect but Ilocanos have a hard time understanding the Ibanag dialect. Ibanag is the only dialect in the Philippines that has all and uses all the letters in both the English and the Spanish alphabets in both oral and written communications. "Dios ta gabi nikamu ngamin".

What's your point? I'm a 5th generation, ethnic Ilocano-Cagayano born and raised in Cagayan. My great-greatgrandparents were from the other side of the Caraballo, came and settled in Cagayan as homesteaders and cleared the jungle where they settled in with their bare hands, something that the natives did not take advantage of. As a result there are more Ilocanos who are land owners in Cagayan than any other ethnic groups while the haciendas were and still are controlled by Spanish mestizos and lately by a big and well-known food conglomerate. Other ethnic groups in Cagayan back in the days would just be content on working as household helps or live in squalor along the banks living on mouth to mouth subsistence. I am amazed that a well-educated [I supposed] Cagayano like you would post a racially-motivated comment like this on an otherwise friendly forum. Ilocanos have and continue to contribute to Cagayan's wealth and if there are racially-motivated comments such as yours, I expect them to come from an ignorant, un-educated fellow from the other side of the Caraballo directed at us Cagayanos which they ignorantly call C...i and not from a well-educated Ibanag towards his provincemates. Peace out.

No offense meant, Brigg. I was just pointing out the ethnicity of Cagayan as a province. People from other parts of the country refer to the inhabitants of the entire Northern Luzon Region as Ilocanos. And that is because Ilocano migrants are all over the country especially in Mindanao where they have eatablished large communities of purely Ilocano heritage. I was born and raised in Tuguegarao, but I finished my college in Laoag City. I also have a beautiful Ilocana wife from Laoag City. So I have nothing against Ilocanos, as well. If you look at the last part of my blog, it is a greeting in Ibanag, which I speak fluently. I am proud to be a Cagayano, and a full-blooded Ibanag.

Let me give my insights on the latest discussion..Northern part of Cagayan is predominantly Ilocano(think Aparri,Sta. Ana, Lal-lo..etc), the southern part(think Tuguegarao, Solana, Iguig, etc..) is predominated by Ybanags. I, myself a true blue Cagayanon, doesn't belong to either.. I am an Ytawes. We have, for centuries, harmoniously co-existed with each other. Let this not be the point of any argument..:)

peace to everyone most especially to my fellow cagayanos...i've read all the comments regarding ethnicity, and of being racist and uneducated...i guess, it's more than uneducated if we cagayanos ourselves end up arguing and badmouthing in blogs like this...why not just we love and compliment one another, we are known for being hospitable and with concern to our kababayans. i am very much elated everytime i meet my fellow cagayanos (ibanag or ilocano) here in school where i am teaching i love to entertain them, to give them my unconditional service, i always show them my concern and affection lalo na pag naging student ko na siya...feeling ko kasi kamag anak ko lahat basta cagayano na mapadpad dito sa St. Therese of Rose School , Caloocan City. Thank you cagagayanos...may God bless us all...

to messala malolos city:
what's the point of telling everybody that true ilocanos are the ibanags. let me rephrase this way so every body has more clearer view on this. so you are telling everybody that you are an ybanag and the true or ORIGINAL ilocano are no other than the ybanags your group alone and WE as the true blooded ilocano and cannot speak out your dialect ybanag coz our tounges are twisted whenever we try are only a migrants or dayuhan in cagayan?what a pity on us. we are considered as migrants in our own province where our grand grand grand parents were born and raised.

hello, hope everybody understands that being an ybanag or ilocano makes us still a true bloded cagayanos most especially if we are raised and educated in our province. what matters most is that we value our roots, we love our province and that we fight for it, like what i read from your comments, ang point niyo lang is that if you are ybanag or ilocano, ang mahalaga kasi dito ay parepareho tayong cagayanos...un lang un, di ba? you can tag yourself naman as cagayano or cagayana not ilocano/ilocana or ybanag, ako kasi ybanag ang nakagisnan kong dialect pero i consider also myself as ilocano kasi marunong din akong magsalita nito. proud na lang tayo na maraming dialect sa prov. natin...God bless cagayanos!

Update on Gov. Antonio case against suspended Buguey Mayor Taruc

Worse, the suspension was immediately carried out despite Taruc’s timely motion for reconsideration. More than 100 policemen from the different towns were sent by the governor to the Buguey town hall, surrounded it and ejected Mayor Taruc despite his and his supporters’ protestations that the council decision was not yet final and executory. Electric power and water supply of the town hall were cut off. Taruc’s opponent, Vice Mayor Licerio Antiporda III, assumed the mayorship, but town hall employees still went to Mayor Taruc’s home were he held office.

The suspension order of Taruc is on appeal and a complaint for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act has been filed against Governor Antonio with the Office of the Ombudsman, praying that the governor be preventively suspended
