I believe that the creation of Israel is the only time the United Nations gave long ago, former inhabitants of a country their former territory (even though many were Eastern European)and did not compensate the people whose country it was at the time of the creation of the new state.
Coming out of World War II and the Holocost, the times were ripe for such a maneuver.
However, what if the United Nations tried that with other displaced nations? Would we tolerate it if the United Nations gave the United States back to the "Indians"?
One cannot change history. However it is time for the United Nations, who created Israel, to create a Palestine, set the borders, and send in troops to maintain the peace like it does in other areas.
Until the two can live side by side in peace, the United Nations should be in charge of the security of both, rather than arming one and leaving the other defenseless outside of terrorism.
In 1944, Jews paid between $1000 and $1100 per acre mostly for arid or semi-arid land; in the same year, rich black soil in Iowa was selling for about $110 per acre (U.S. Dept. of Agriculture)"

According to British government statistics, prior to the establishment of the State of Israel, 8.6% of the land area now known as Israel was owned by Jews; 3.3% by Arabs who remained there; 16.5% by Arabs who left the country. More than 70% of the land was owned by the BRITISH GOVERNMENT!!! Under international law, ownership passed to Israel in 1948. The public lands included most of the Negev Desert --Survey of 1946, British Mandate Government
