Deciphering Israeli SettlementSpeak

Israeli governments have become very adept over the years at methodically expanding their hold on the West Bank while publicly declaring plans to freeze controversial settlement development that is a major ...

I am a Jew and a big supporter of Israel and I believe it needs to protect itself from an Arab and Palestiniana world that wants to destroy it, BUT, I am not happy about the continued expansion or creation of new settlements. I am afraid the settlers, especially the religious ones, are a real detriment to Peace and to Israel being respected and admired in the World. It's time for the Palestinians, ruthless though their leaders are, to have their own State... to be tested in the eyes of the world to see if they are capable of living in Peace and building their own prosperity.

I think Israel should continue it's expansion. Palestine is NOT a people, they are Syrian, Jordanian, but NOT Palestinians.

They do not exist.

It's time these "people" leave, and be re-absorbed by the lands they come from.

I don't think most people grasp how complex an issue this is. Some facts.

A) The issue of illegal settlements is important
B) It is not only Arabs being expelled if they build illegally, man jews have been removed (often forcefully) from land they could not lay legal claim to
C) The Israeli government refuses to issue permits for building and even SIMPLE repairs (putting in galss windows?) to those individuals pushing the envelope and purchasing lands legally (although illegal according to the PLO's view... their laws stricly forbid Arabs selling any property to Jews).

A perfect example is the "Peace House" in Hebron. Its on the adjacent hill from Kiryat Arba (a very clean and perfectly legal area as set for by the Oslo Accords). Like many deals, it was videotaped and documented because as soon as the Jews give over the check and take ownership the Palestinian who sold it must either A) Leave the country or B) deny ever having signed the papers or accepted payment.

If the person is found to have sold to the Jews he is likely to be killed by the Palestinians. The Jews are left holding the bag minus the money and no property.

Should Jews be trying to buy these parcels? Probably not... but they do.

I don't know what the current status of the Peace House is, but the jews were fighting the Israeli government just to install glass windows? Its not one sided. Its complex.

And so the so-called Palestinians should build their settlements in the Palestinian Mandate of Jordan, as was the 1948 objective.

Kiryat Arba is actually an illegal settlement where many Israeli terrorists have lived.

Umm yeah, you've obviously never been there, nor have you heard of the Oslo Accords. You believe everything you hear from Peace Now, I take it?

Also, please explain how someone is Israeli and a terrorist? That's not possible. One cannot be a member of a recognized nation AND be a terrorist.

Its a clean, beautifully run little community. I don't even think bulldozers would make easy work of most of the buildings there, as they are huge stone apartment buildings.. yes apartments.

If anything is going on there with the military, its that they are pushing back the Jews and taking their homes. There is some crazy Jews there, I'll give you that.

WOW, do you actually think that if a person is from a recognized country they cannot be a terrorist?

So where DO terrorists come from? And can you give an example of a non recognized country?

You must be one of the must stupid people I have EVER heard on Topix!

You are a pretty big idiot yourself. The google definition of terrorism: "ia label for one who personally is involved in an act of terrorism. Terrorist tactics may also be used by dissident groups or other non-state actors to achieve political ends or for purposes of extortion"

That's non-state. If you are gullible enough to believe I thought I meant they didn't come from a country then you are mistaken.

Everybody comes from a country.

Its the fact they aren't a state or nation.. just a group of people you can't simply single out. How about your own local IRA? Are they a party of the Arm na hÉireann?

Unless, of course, you are neoconservative and believe everything Bush says, you should understand that terrorists aren't sanctioned by nor do they act at the behest of a single nation or state.

Scholars Of history are aware that the terminology of words: Palestine or Palestinian, refers to Jews and Christians of that area. And it was not intended to include Arab Islam. And it's remarkable to see Arab Islam today, seeking an identity, and re-inventing their history, leaning on the Palestinian illusion of being Arab Muslim. And perhaps todays major difficulty stems from Great Britain's mistake in not naming Jordan, Palestine.

Super Arab Muslims (claiming to be Americans) please tell us which Arab nation we may send you to, which you think would offer you a better life, than would Israel. Tell us of the superior Arab nation, that we may examine it's merits.

Thats fine, but you said, "Also, please explain how someone is Israeli and a terrorist?"

Now that you have checked the definition of terrorist, you see that ANYONE from ANY country can be a terrorist.

Can you now see that your statement that Israelis can’t be terrorists is a load of crap?

And I am still interested to find out what you think is a non recognized country!

As for your example of the IRA, the IRA are part of a recognized country and are STILL terrorists! According to your earlier post, because they are Irish, they can’t be labeled as terrorists?

But hey, who am I to judge you? You probably know this already but just didn’t make your post clear enough for people to understand.

I’ll put it down to a misunderstanding.

What do you mean, "leave it to a guy from Ireland to tell us about Israel."?

What is your point? Do the Irish have some sort of history on commenting on the Israeli occupation or something?

Or did you just write that for no particular reason?

They'll make decent temporary housing for the Palestinians to live in while their people build some quality homes.
This will be after president Obama forces all the jews back into Israel where they belong.

I meant: I've met only one Irish Jew and she was adopted. Unless you are one of them suicidal moonbats like Rachel Corrie I doubt you have any "on the ground" experience in Israel in which to contribute here.

Oh, and for the shamefully & woefully uniformed, Jews cannot build houses illegally without fear of retribution by the government. Israel has a sh*t-ton of police-state issues to be addressed.. but of course most people get off on seeing Jews with bloody noses.

Everybody here would agree,'Damn Israel!' and all its non-cute and cuddly Arab inhabitants.

Unable to describe this in words, I am forced to post links.. and I dare you to read them.

You obviously have not been to Ramallah where the houses are much nicer then any part of Israel. They also own much of Jerusalem the Palestinians from Ramallah.
