1. Idiot, Malik Rehman (a well known US agent) is calling for the continuation of the war.
Lyari may become a mini Gaza strip within Karachi.
2. There are divisions within the PPP over the war against Lyari.
Some Sindhi Balochis (i.e. Sindhis of Baloch origin, around 30%+ of Sindhs) in the PPP are totally against this.
Sindhi nationalists are attacking the PPP on this, Lyari it seems may even switch its allegiance to the PPP's arch-rival the PML-N (mainly Punjabi party).
Ultimately some in the PPP may even leave the PPP and Zardari. Zulfikar Mirza has already left a gap between him and the PPP.
This may have implications on who is the future president of any potentially independent Sindh, and thus the character of that state.
Hopefully Sindh's first president will be Dr Qadir Magsi or another Sindhi nationalist who is against the Wadera system and supports Haris (Sindhi peasants).
3.**** PPP kicked out of Karachi ****
The Lyari war may see the PPP ultimately kicked out of Karachi and with no presence in the city.
If that is the case then their strength in rural Sindh may be affected too.
The MQM v PPP gun fights and killings whereby the PPP used Lyari gangsters will end, but the question is will they become MQM v PML-N gun fights?
So far the PML-N unlike the MQM, ANP or PPP has no major tradition or role in Karachis bloody private armies and gun politics, if it however takes over from the PPP as the patron of Lyari's gangsters, then the other question is will Nawaz Sharif, a Punjabi, get other Punjabis to support Lyari gangsters.
The police and rangers in Sindh are mainly Punjabi for instance.
4.*** Implications for the War in Balochistan and potential war in Sindh ***
The Lyari war has incensed Balochis in Balochistan and weakened the impact of Imran Khan's reconciliatory rhetoric and his Quetta Jalsa. It increases support for the anti-Pakistan nationalists.
Balochi guerillas have already said they are in Lyari and fired RPGS (rockets) against the police.
Will Balochi guerillas start to deploy more forces and fighters in Karachi?
Will their Taliban allies start to do the same?
Also the relatively successful defence of Lyari by Lyari gangsters will only encourage Darrya Khan and his SLA (Sindhudesh Liberation Army) by seeing the weakness and impotence of the Pakistani state and police.
If war starts off in rural Sindh, the PPP will lose support and the break up of the federation is more likely and the Americans including Dana Rohrabracher will also call for self-determination for Sindh in addition to Balochistan and attack Pakistan's human rights records.
