I really had a good laugh at your comment.. I guess you have never lived in Norway or maybe just come as a tourist.. smiling is not one of the things here that will get you into the good graces of ppl.. they assume you are either drunk or crazy.. another thing is culture, unless you grew up in the same town, went to the same school, parents known each other for 30 years, or there is some other contection you will find it very hard to make friends with Norwegians. Maybe that is why so many of us X-Pats stick together.. because we have tried.. belive me we have tried, it's really no use and frankly who needs to run in circles.
Don't ever laugh if you don't want to piss off Norwegians.hahaha! I really mean it, and don't use deodorant if you wanna ride the bus or public transport for that matter. Their excuse is that they are allergic to perfumes!!!

If the problem is that you are bored, you don't really have a problem. If you can't find something to do here, you're the problem, and judging from your post, I won't deem that as very unlikely.
Migrate to Africa or Colombia if you want excitement, I'm sure you would be longing to Norway after not so long.
Good bye. I won't miss you.
I see people are looking for an excitement after being bored in Norway, Hi folk, I have an advice for you. Go to Somalia, that is where the excitement is. Buy a speed boat and sail deep to the Indian Ocean. You won't be bored there, but don't blame me if your head is blasted. I am just kidding.
I am a Somali-Norwegian and have been to different countries. Every country has its pros and cons, but I prefer Norway to any other country. Norway is awesome if you know how to enjoy your time. I can go to the wood after few blocks from my house, or can take my children with the ferry to the the islands in Oslo fjord. Go to ski in winter and enjoy the nature.

Greetings from Oslo. I luv Norway!

Well I've been up here in Alesund for three months now, and I have mixed opinions. The work is excellent, very relaxed and it's (whisper it now) easy to outperform the locals. The people are friendly and eager to talk to us friendly Brits, which is understandable as our worst elements can't afford to holiday here.

Boring? It is a little for many of the reasons stated; expensive, no service culture, no infrastructure and hard to reach other cities. The people kinda make it worth it though.

So pros: Good work, good pay, great outdoors, dynamite women, friendly people.
Cons: Insanely expensive, comparatively quiet, too rural in feel, slow and you'll drive a rustbucket if you're not rich (budgetwise, a 2 year old Jag X Type in the UK costs the same as a 7-9 year old Golf here).

So pick which you like the most: The people or the stuff you can do. If the former, you'll enjoy it here. If the latter, you'll get homesick fast.

I've been in Norway for almost one year now and I'm well travelled and have experienced different cultures around the world from my past working life.
Norway is a scenic country but has alot of ? in my opinion. It's not like yoiu can just go outdoors all the time or have a social coffee on the street. People don't just have a chat with you. Especially not your neighbours who we still don't no after 8 months.
First we lived north of the arctic circle, amazingly scenic place but harsh and cold as you would expect, the lack of light in winter which would make anyone go mad other than if you had maybe grown up with this.
Then moved to Asker 1/2 hour from Oslo, boring to say the least.
The public system and getting advice and help has been pathetic.
I enrolled in a Norwegian language class 6 months ago and I'm told I'm on a waiting list, they cant tell me how many others are on the waiting list, thanks Faulkeruniversitet Asker. I did 6 weeks before we came to Asker in Harstad which I also waited 2 months for before starting.
I'm well qualified in my field and have sent out over 50 resume's but not landed one interview. The job agencies are a waste of time. I worked in a kitchen chopping vegies for 3 months until I couldnt deal with it any longer.
My overall experience of Norway as an active and social person is boring. As a result of the environment and my bordem / experience so far my wife (Norwegian) has decided it's best we break / seperate. We have 2 boys 3 and 5.. my life is being crushed and I say don't come here if your social and want a good balance of life.

Hey Ozzy, the local birds see us as sperm doners, nothing else, deal with it, I've had to! I also got kicked out when I saw Norway for what it is and the ex couldn't handle it. Worry not my friend, it aint England, as a father you have rights and that will piss your ex off so good times are to come, listen carefully, USE A LAWYER, money well spent, you'll be instructed to go to a counsellers meeting and that's where you start getting what is right, do it quick, as in now, or there's no way you can stop her moving back up north with the kids, or even Australia so pull your finger out.

I live in Norway, and I must say; I feel that it's the most boring country on earth. It's a very good and free country to live in and we're very rich and stuff, but my god, too much immigrants.
I'm no racist, but it really is too much ..

And Norway isn't mentioned in ANYTHING!
It's nothing about it on American TV (outlandish TV generally), in music, in cartoons (lol), culture articles, stuff about interesting people or food or ANYTHING. WE'RE BORING! I wish I lived in America, because it is there obviously EVERYTHING happens. Just look at Obama, does he seem happy to come to Norway? Did Michael Jackson seem happy and excited when he came her in '92 and '97, DOES ANY?._.

Well, Norway is in my opinion quite boring compared to many other countries, nature aside. But immigrants at least make it a bit LESS boring. Couldn't stand living here without people with other cultural backgrounds.

I like to compare Norway with a rather well equipped Zoo with loads of, admittedly quite roomy, mental cages and barriers. The inhabitants are safe, well fed, rather healty and have a range of activities to engage in to keep them "happy". But the posibilities and range of choices are quite limited, and all the restrictive laws and predominant public opinions keep you from feeling really free. Maybe not so much if you have lived in the Zoo more or less your whole life, but definitely if you have experienced and grown accustomed to life in the outside world.

The Zoo analogy also works if you for instance would in one go lower the price for alcohol to a level like in other European countries. People would act like animals let out of their cages, they would go wild... They have lost much of their ability to think and take care of themselves, the government aka. Zoo managers has taken that "burden" off their shoulders... All for your own best interest, or is it?

But the really frightening thing to me is that it's not getting better, rather worse. And other governments seem to in some ways to want to follow Norways example. So the Norwegian government (and prob. the majority of the people) consider this as a proof that they're doing something right. BUT: It's a big difference between tightening the leashes on a rather free society than doing it in a society that's rather unfree to begin with.

And I know, many people would disagree with me when I say Norway is a rather unfree society, and in many ways they're right. But the concept of freedom is individual and it's a feeling more than cold facts, never forget...

I have lived in Norway almost 2 years and I come from a latin american country and i like Norway.have lived in Oslo now and iam not an old person.Recently married a Norwegian who is a wonderful husband and is not cold at all, but kind and warm and extremely intelligent with to carriers.By know have completed all the the language hours required and currently studing norwegian and dentistry. It takes hard work to be immigrant, it doesnt matter where because it always will take more than the normal citizen. I have worked alot in my carrier and many years to achive goals, and come and study to go one year to university and complete all. But I gained an excellent husband and family life country, excellent with family life and peace.Specially for pregant women. Every persons situation is different, the background, the expectations, the personality, convictions, the hardships. It doesnt fit a perfect picture for all. At the end one makes their world. So to migrate is not easy and here is multicultural. What I have learned is that people are reserved, not like latins that talk to one another in a bus, in a train and that i say i missed in Oslo. BUT I have met extraordinary people that are so kind. I have met others imigrants and norwegians that have bad mood and are not so polite. So in a country you find of everything and i include mi country. For me it has been the same standard of living as where I came from, even though is a developing country, because i lived well, so that has not changed and ive traveld alot to know. Food....less fat and more healthy. I love that because the cuisine has began to change and you find many places where food is good and its progresing. So food doesnt contain hormones and the food serving is almost the same portions as I was used to. What i miss is the typical food i ate in my homecountry!!! So that is normal. Ive felt so welcomed and respected that I like it very much. I love Bergen, my huband comes from there and so many friends too and live currently in Oslo and are excellent persons, mature, good hearted, easy going, welcoming and respectful. I have never felt someone treated me different at all. My experience have been this: many people talk alot, be expresive and write poems and talk nicely......but inside....is a whole different story. Others er reserved and are expresive privately but their actions.....says alot.Kindness, goodnes and loved is not only by saying it but the actions tell it and boy my husband , family and friends have that. If you have a relative or a friend and kan visit, do it, if youre interested and make your OWN experience. No country is prefect and It starts by seeng fist ourselves and our country to judge another. Many say my country is best, this is better, but that doesnt exist. You are always going to find a person that doesnt like your country nor the culture and of course you would never like to hear it. this is better, thats not...and what one can think is the best the other person kan think that is not.Good luck and im sure there has to be a place that suits you!!!

No.Obama and Nobel prize is boribng.
An open letter to the people of the USA

Somebody must be brave enough to tell the followings to President Obama.

1 USA is in Afganistan for 8 years and this war is considered as a II.Vietnam by yhe reading and thinking US citizens. Many US citizens taking off the Obama stickers from their cars only after one year..There were thousands of civilians have been killed in Afganistand and nobody knows how lont it will last.

2Afganistan war cost 228billions of US Dollars and tax payers paid this invoice sofar. The increasment on losses of the US soldiers and the money they paid as taxes made US peeople more angry day by day.

3.The aim of the USA was catching Osama Bin Laden and destroy Al Kaide eternally. But according to General James Jones of the US Army, there are only 100 Al-Kaide militants in Afganistan. But According to another US General,Mr Stanley McChrystal there must be at least 120.000USA soldiers to capture them. The people of the USA can not understand the use of spending billions for 100 Al-Kaide soldiers.

4.Because of this irrational situation your people believe that you are surrounded with the advisers of the powerful war industries not yours .Another group of your advisers are falcons and both of them and the their owners are making alot of billions over the other people’s lifes and moneys. But you are losing the sympathy of your people.
When you were elected everbody was very optimistic and thought that you were the right person as an USA President to resist those war-merchants and declare your will to them and mean it strogly.
But unfortunately and sad to say the speech you have delivered fort he new Afganistan strategy of your government killed all the hopes on this subject.because that strategy shows the foolish part of the “”to end the occupation of a country we have to occupy more lands”””.This fairy tale can not convince even the 10years old kids.ıt is very clear that USA Government is very eager to demonstrate her imperial wills on Afganistan and Pakistan.

5.The real reason of your Afganistan Strategy is based on “”keeping Pakistan under control “””.The cold days with Iran ,the endless war in Iraq and your imperial demands on Middleeast territory ar efor only OIL.You are establisng many bases on the world’s different territories to keep your global mandatory on the world as long as you can.Are planning to do the same in the other parts of the Middleast like Iraq?Areyou planning to carry-on divide and rule policy on the nations in the Middleeastern part of the world?

6.If your answer is yes,you are the first and only “”President of the war of all times”” with NOBEL prize.
