yeah and on top of that, they are maybe going to offer asylum seekers who are in the process of being 'processed', 10,000 NOK to 'go home'. Like that is really going to work. The same asylum seeker will happily accept the money, and come back again, and collect another 10,000 NOK. They keep cheating the system because they know that they can. Wake up the NOrwegian politicians. Look at Finland and Sweden who hardly allow any asylum seekers. But hey no, in Norway it's 'open doors' for everyone, until it all goes pear shaped. I am not proud of my country anymore. My forefathers here would be turning in the graves if they could see the modern day Norway.

Most asylum seekers are frauds -- at best they can be called economic migrants. Crime in Norway is being propelled by the immigrant influx. I don't support the FrP because their economic policies are sh!t but if they can do something about the immigrant problem, it will be a big thing. Non-white immigrants are becoming the permanent Norwegian underclass.

hi am a bit shocked by all the racism on this forum and the fact you seem to have to pay to report it!
but leaving that aside, can anyone advise me whether as an english person i would have any difficulty getting a norwegian residence permit, ie that would enable me to work there (or even claim benefits if i were to have a baby for example)? how important is it to speak norwegian before you go, i'm a bit lazy so i thought i maybe could just learn a bit and then pick it up by being immersed in it.
Hi purplemeanie! It totally depends on your personal circumstances. Like are you single? are you with a norwegian citizen? If you are with a norwegian citizen then you just have to document that that person will provide for you financially. If not, you could always get a student visa and a loan from the norwegian government. I'm not sure, but i think that as a member of the EU or EEA you are entitled to work here for up to 6 months without any visa whatsoever.

I have to clear one thing up though. Having lived in Oslo for coming up to four years now. I had to chuckle when you said that you hoped to be immersed in the language. I hoped that that would be the case for me when I moved here. But Norway is not a big country at all. And because most people live spread out, it's not a very sosial culture at all. The vast majority of what is shown on tv or played over the radio is in english (generally american or british). People don't really do small talk in shops, cafes, etc. It can be painfully difficult to get norwegains to open up on the whole. As most people have a tendancy to be introverted and VERY sober ;-). I would'nt let this stop you if you're serious about moving. I speak very well in norwegian now after taking several language classes and doing lots of different temping jobs. The job market is good here but at present 70% of jobs are filled due to networking. Be prepared to send off 100 applications only to get perhaps 5 responses and no interviews!! You could get lucky but in my experience and speaking with many foreigners from all over the world. It seems Norway is not a place that you instantly fall in love with. But if you stick it out. You can build a really good life here. Norway is a rich country, with no national debt, it's definately a country on the up. It's such a cliche but so true If you speak the language, you will get so much more out of your time in Norway.

I hope this was of help to you. Good luck!

Actually, your healthcare is paid for via your income and value added taxes. There is no such thing as free health care. Sorry.

Too funny. I have many immigrant friends here in the US. All they do is bitch, bitch, bitch about the US. Don't like country music (Toby Keith), don't like American food, don't even try to speak English most of the time. Run around in some type of friggin fantasy about their "back home." Well, if you miss it so much, GO BACK AND FIX IT! But, that would take work and some balls. But, don't worry boys, the Americans can do it for you!

if you wanna move to Norway, make sure you're not an unemployee who looks pathetic and has no skills but washing plates (being a servant). Any country would reject you. if you want Norway to accept you, then make sure you can give it advantage.

me... im from Asia, and I think Norway is a good place to live in but of course I will come as someone who has a lot of money and builds jobs and has no bad records. and i will invest my money there. so i will be someone who gives benefit to Norway.

Norway doesn't need servants 'cause it already has. it needs enterpreneurs or skilled workers.

Is anyone aware of any thought being given by the Norwegian government to reverse immigration, i.e., giving special preference to those of significant Norwegian hertigate to come back to Norway (along with their families)? I speak as an American who loves his country (and has lived in Norway and loves it too) but is extremely concerned about the direction that the U.S. is taking. I heard that Sweden once extended preferential status to all people who could prove a Scandanavian (not just Swedish) grandparent. Thoughts? Takk

Why do you want to move to Norway in the first place? The kind of dirty underpaid jobs you are willing to do in Norway are still available in Sweden.
No, they're not xD. Besides, Norwegian underpaid jobs are well-paid by Swedish standards.

Hello Szladek -
What is wrong with Poland? It is a beautiful country. The people are wonderful. Warsaw is a very inviting and friendly city. I've been there and was very impressed.
If you insist on coming to the US you will probably feel most at home in Chicago. This is my hometown. Of course, the Polish people live in various slums around the city and work primarily as maids, nannies, or washing dishes. The crime rate is very high in Chicago but at least you will be able to understand the language since there is no pressure to understand English. You will be able to read the local Polish newspapers as well. Your kids will be lost all of their lives and you will have sold your soul to live as a slave in a foreign country. Welcome!
