No matter what the Nobel Prize Committee states is the reason for the award, the real reason is they are Socialists that want to promote socialism. Obama's agenda probably won't work with Iran, North Korea or the Taliban. No matter, it's the thought behind the reasoning. Kind of like Chamberlain's reasoning, perhaps he can recieve the award retro-actively.

The Nobel is a sham.

Not really surprising considering the political alignment of the Nobel committee. Jimmy Carter and Nelson Mandela have also received the peace prize. No recognition for the likes of Ronald Regan or Margret Thatcher for their roles in freeing millions from communist tyranny.

I couldn't agree more...the whole Nobel selection and award process at least as it relates to political figures was hijacked by the socialist / one worlders years ago. This is a political statement from them pure and simple

A "political statement"?! When I first heard this, I thought for sure that an "Onion" story had been mistaken for real news and been reprinted in a "serious" venue.

This is a "ridiculous statement," although I suppose it's hardly the first for the Nobel committee...

Next up, news that black is white, up is down, war is peace, slavery is freedom, etc.... So say the experts.

This is realloy good news for the USA and Obama!!
Thank god we have a leader who has made significant changes in the way the USA interacts with the rest of the planet. After the utter failure of the cowboy policies of the last prez. it is refreshing to have and educated careful leader representing us. Go Obama! Up with the USA and whirled peas!!!!!

I cannot recall a more appropriate time to ask, like so many others already have, "Is this a joke?"

Well Tookie Williams was nominated in 2001 as well, so the standards are not set too high for winning this award. This is purely a joke. Now he gets to spend more taxpayer dollars to go to Denmark to accept the "award" instead of focusing on our countries issues. I guess he got his "ego" stroked by this after the great slap in the face by the Olympic Committee ..what a complete joke of a president. I would think you have to be in office for more than 8 months to see what you are capable of, nevermind, winning a Nobel Peace Prize! If Iran goes "nuclear" will they take the award back?

You gotta be kidding. The Nobel nitwits have been in the tank for liberals and peaceniks for years. Make no mistake, these are political awards with a lefty agenda. They give an award to the likes of Jimmy Carter, a house painter, and Yasur Arafat, an avowed terrorist, but none to someone like Jonas Salk, a medical research giant who saved millions from getting polio.

"I am both surprised and deeply humbled," Obama said at the White House.

"I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments. But rather as an affirmation of American leadership.... I will accept this award as a call to action."

Obama said he did not feel he deserves "to be in the company" of past winners, but would continue to push a broad range of international objectives, including nuclear non-proliferation, a reversal of the global economic downturn, and a resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

Suck on that for awhile, fright wing idiots.

If they like Obama so much, why not take him with you back to Europe! We certainly wouldn't miss him here.

LMAO, It's not even April fools day yet. When Obama is indicted on the TRS scandal for raiding the Illiniois Teachers Retirement fund, does he get to keep the prize in his Jail cell?
