Well, I tried to move from Norway to the Netherlands, and you were right about the coldness of the Norwegians. I instantly found the Dutchmen to be much friendlier and warmer - until I found out why. They were paedophiles. |

My boyfriend and I are both Canadian and he wants to become a police officer in Canada, however we may move to Norway in about 5 or more years and I was wondering if he would be able to be a police officer there? Or would he have to find another career?

It rains a lot in Bergen, but besides maby the coolest city, if you're coming here because of the nature and stuff, i would recomand Tromsø/Tromso.
It's a city far north. It's is known for itæs good student societies. |

Judged: 2 Yes, that should be ok. Just come to Norway and be a cop, please come right away and dont botherwaiting for five or more years. They dont speak English in Norway but never mind your boyfriend should be able to deal with the locals using sign language and just generally waving his arms around. Doughnuts could be a problem though because that particular food item is considered gourmet and is not easy to find. There are no Starbucks in Norway either, apart from the departure lounge at Oslo airport. Just mention my name on your application form and everything should be honky dory. |

Judged: 2 1 1 Yes, all of the above is true and good advice.Add into the mix the fact that most of the natives consider themselves experts on just about any subject and world champions at everything. This can really get on your nerves. I had an argument with one of these beacons of wisdom recently. He tried to tell me that Norway had a rich food culture. I pointed out to him that if you want food culture then one needs to visit France or Italy. I then asked for some examples of this culture. His reply was lapscouse ( simple stew which is cooked in most countries ) and fårikal ( a greasy mix of cabbage and mutton boiled to bejaysus in a pot ). He was serious too. Most Norwegians go around with their heads up their own asses believing they, and their dull and bleak country, is the greatest thing on this earth. Best tip is stay on the plane and go somewhere more progressive, Denmark for example. |

Judged: 2 2 2 To sit at a table full of Norwegians is an insuffereable nightmare for most. Every square inch of your face, your features, your bone structure, your hair color, your eye color, your energy field, your motives, your wealth or your lack of wealth, your faults, every good and bad thing you ever did or THOUGHT in your last 50,000 aeons of incarnation, your lineage, your genetics, your thoughts, your intelligence level or lack of intelligence, your crossbreeding if any going back to 25,000 BCE...what can be extracted from you, etc etc etc is SCRUTINIZED as if you are under under a giant bright light and powerful x-ray microscope. Any wonder why no Norwegian wants to know you? They LOOK THOUGH your eternal soul history before they even consider to give you the time of day. And since true Norwegians think they have the answers to everything, why would they care what incorrect wrong thinking you have? They do not care what is in your thought except to avoid it or contain it if it is dangerous to thier interests. |

I always had this dream of moving to Norway for a couple of years, but after reading people's comment I'm sitting here with mixed feeling.
I keep reading that Norwegians are racists, they won't socialize, or be friends with you if you're a foreign. Do they treat every foreign like that, or is just with colored people? Do they treat white foreings like that as well? |

Judged: 2 2 2 As a white foreigner who lived in Norway for 8 years I can tell you that it's anything that is not norwegian. White people are treated a little better but if you are coloured you are treated like a piece of sh*t. It's basically social apartheid, norway gives the perception that it is a tolerent socialist country but in reality it is very right-wing. Norwegians are arrogant, rude and very repressed. So it depends on you, if you can become a norwegian then you will be fine as for myself I could not sink down to being a self-centered, rude, arrogant person just to live in norway. Good Luck, you will need it. |

It`s very gratifying to exchange the exact same thoughts and sentiments with other expats, because for a while there I thought it was me(-: And now thanks to forums such as this one, I know for sure it`s not me, it`s all them them them. Unless you`re an extreme nature enthusiast with no skepticism in regards to bad weather 350 days a year, then I don`t see any strong reason to want to move to Norway. I found it dreary/gloomy, dark, depressing and very very boring. And I`m even half Norwegian(-: Take it from me, you`re not going to meet any full breed Norskies who will give you this sort of straight dope about the subject matter of NORWAY(-: |

Judged: 1 1 That's what I thought when I first moved to Norway: Maybe it's me and I just need to work harder to integrate. You soon realise that it's extreme nationalism and xenophobia and you will never be allowed to integrate. You are tolerated and never allowed to be an equal. Norwegians think they are superior to everyone else on earth. To live in an environment like this is simply bad for your health and wellbeing, norway will never change. You may think this extreme but at the moment the rest of the world will think that anders breivik is an evil twisted monster but anyone who has lived in norway would probably just consider him to be very very very very norwegian. |
