lets hope that common sense, business flair and good enterpreneur knowledge makes the possible pilot project one that becomes successful. It is a sure winner, with the support of nz and niue as an added bonus of garaunter credibililty

For Tourism to work it needs hard work and support from the locals in making the Niuean NZders feel welcomed back to the land. I for one didn't have a choice whether to live in or come to NZ. My grandparents/parents decided that for me many years ago. I believe that if the business locals got off their chairs and develop partnerships with Niue/NZders it can make a whole lot of difference to their pockets. Innovative ideas needs exploring here and the locals should be more friendlier business wise instead being too critical. Some Niueans can be procastinators in their way of thinking NEKE - ACTION would be good a start. kind regards

The lack of progress in the development of Niue's Tourism industry is owing to NZAID' excessively bureaucratic processes and systems. The initial investment has to be made and the Government over the years have proposed a number of business models for the strategic development of the industry's infrastructure.
The demand will come once adequate investment is made in developing accommodation, a sound national infrastructural base, and supporting services along the value chain. Once these are in place, there will be justification for increasing the number of flights, more visitations from cruise liners, more Niueans in NZ will find Niue more attractive place to visit and invest and more good things will follow..... So for NZAID to say that we will provide assistance if there is demand.. in essence it is trying to throttle Niue's neck into submission... into reintegration.

Taking Action is the easy part, deciding which action to take is not so easy.
The right action comes with the right motivation, and the right motivation comes with wisdom - a balanced state of mind.
A drop of water in a pond ripples outward.

Tourism development needed in Niue is one that enables the participation of those in the Community. We need a development model that promotes community ownership of strategic asset of the industry. There is still room for private sector but look at the experience of our neighbouring islands, the locals become the source of cheap labour and also suffer from the environmental degradation caused by myopic and profit driven capitalists. Village councils can drive development however pertinent is the need for Govt to develop NGO capacity, set up quality management systems and create an enabling environment.
