FREE WIRELESS NETWORK RESHAPES LIVES IN NIUE ...Not when accessibility is an issue for the majority of Niue's population I dont think so. Urgent efforts need to improve IT infrastructure and address accessibility. When only the bureaucrats and the elites do have acess then its cant be NIUE.....

They need more than wireless to reshape Niue im afraid. Hopefully the new makeover with the Government will add to the reshaping, rather than to the constant corruption Niue is plagued by..

they can dump their sh!t in da sea to make more land. |

It's idiots like you who make stupid decisions like the one you suggested. Shut the hell up coz you make your self look like a dumb ass - kinda equivelent to the coconut small minded brain that you have.
|
Well I have more nuts than you. Think about it. They dump their sh!t in the sea to reclaim the land. Whats so hard in that? My people have done it ever since they came here. That is why we are not sinking. |

That that maybe so. But that doesnt give my people what they need to gain and build a stronger economy, government, island.. and yes you do have more nuts than me - so congratulations on advertising that to the whole world... |
Think about it. If they are able to get more land through sh!tting in the sea, then they can plant vegetables on that land, build houses, buildings, offer jobs to people. But remember one thing. Never let the natives think that its their land. Because once they start thinking its their land, they won't let anyone progress on that land and instead ask for money. We have to be smart, you see. |

Coming back from Niue to NZ I reflected on my Niue experience as being an enjoyable one.
To communicate back to NZ is horrendously expensive which reminds me that writing would be a good way coz telecom is a rip off. Niue can be looked at as a place just to enjoy and destress from wherever you have come from? Its an island with a unique difference. The history is fantasticly interesting and I think Niue is the bomb to visit coz most palagis I know that have visited Niue loves to go back. LOVE NIUE!!! It needs tourism and get away from the norm to explore. "Don't forget the mossy nets tho!" kind regards |

With all due respect sir, your theory of "sh!tting in the sea" is somewhat laughable at least, at most nothing but a smell thrown into the wind.
One: Niue is not short of land. Niue is short of people. To run any sustainable economy you need people not "sh1T" Two: Land on Niue cannot be sold, it is the property of the earth and mother nature. The inhabitants of the island respect this as so too have the ancestors of Niueans. The land we do not inherent from our ancestors but we borrow it from our children. Land will always be land long before and long after. Money is not real, it is only a commodity of your illusion, sure money buys you more and yes you can buy allot of "sh!T" with money. Think about it.

Hi ele i am yet to visit my island home. But it's still very much a part of who i am. and i think with all the fuss going on regarding 'NIUE & it's questionale future" at the heart of it, it's the lack of people on the motu and off the motu who have a vision to see Niue for what it is. Niue is blessed beyond what we imagine, but only suffers at the hands of our niuean govenrment who have forgotten about the people and only think about themselves. They speak of tourism supporting the economy.. What about the taxes people pay that go right into their pockets rather than back to the people? What about the cry for people to go back to live on the land? How about investing in sustainable projects that will create exportation regarding finaces for the struggling niuean economy now. How about investing money into what Niue really needs rather than what makes Niue look good from the outside? It's a wonder why Niue is slowly falling a part.. and soon there won't even be a island worth going back to if the Niuean people dnt start opening up their eye's to the mess that has been created - economically. There's still time for change... But not for long if they keep going the way they are going... It's very sad -- but very true... Liv |

yess i so very agree with the previous comment...
thanks for sharin your views on niue's current situation but you should think before you speak because its so easy to say. let the niueans in NIUE decide what is best for NIUE. thank you for concern but as the previous comment says "what have you done for niue???" you are not the ones who pay our taxes...you do not pay for the very expensive fuel costs here in niue, not only for our vehicles but also the fuel we need for our lawnmowers that we use to keep our lawns clean and for us to clean YOURS, the people who have left niue and leave their homes to be overruled by weeds and shrubs. niue is now on the move forward and changing, thanks to the new government elected this year, the people are more confident and the changes are very evident as more people are getting involved with work within the commmunity and people are more enthusiastic at doing work in government. with the Pacific Island Leaders Forum happening in Niue this week, the people of Niue have done a great deal to prepare for the forum and through this we have seen the whole island come together as a whole in unity to show to the pacific how tight we really are and that niue is still niue. we may only be a small pacific nation but we truly are the cleanest and unpolluted of the lot, something that we are very proud of as niueans... something that ALL niueans on niue and abroad should be proud of. media personnel from all over the world have also commented how organised the forum has been so far, especialy with the media center as it is very up to date and high tech, as compared to many other pacific islands. niue also prides itself in being not only the first in the pacific, but the first in the world to have FREE acess to the internet!!! with wireless and broadband connections niue is not as isolated as you think...especially with the establishment of the "ONE LAPTOP PER CHILD" project, where ALL students of niue receive a free laptop which has many educational activities and wi-fi internet integrated. the only downfall is that niue does not have cellphone coverage networking yet, an issue that has come to be the fault of the previous government, over the past many years they have continued to ignore this huge step into the future. the future of niue remains bright, as we are already looking to a fresh new start after the forum, especially since niue will now hold in honor and pride the title of chairperson to the pacific island forum, a title that would be held by our premier Hon. Toke Talagi. so we urge the strong niueans to return as the only ingredient missing in this recipe is you...NIUEANS! |
