ERIC DID NOT DO IT, AMERICANS DO NOT HOGTIE ANYONE EVER, WE ARE JUST NOT THAT SAVAGE..HE HAD TIME TO CROSS THE BORDER BUT HE DID NOT DO THAT. IF IT WAS SO PREMEDITATED LIKE SOME PEOPLE IMPLY. THE ONLY THING THE JUDGE COULD COME UP WITH , AND SENT HIM TO JAIL FOR 30 YEARS, IS THE SCRATCHES ON HIS BACK, THE WORDS OF HER MOTHER AND DORIS FRIENDS WHO WERE EMOTIONALLY UPSET AT THE TIME. JUDGE THREW OUT THE EYE WITNESS REPORTS BECAUSE IN NICARAGUA YOU CAN GET MANY PEOPLE TO LIE FOR YOU, WELL DAMM IT AMERICANS DO NOT LIE, WE HAVE PURGERY LAWS IN THE US, ALSO ONE HAS TO CONSIDER THE ANTIĦAMERICIANISM DRIFTING AROUND THE WORLD AND EVEN IN SANCTIMONUS NICARAGUA

I just watched the 20/20 show about Eric Voltz and he was surely convicted wrongly. What can we do to get him out of that evil place?

I just watched the show about Eric Volz and I do believe tahat he is innocent. However, the first thought that came to mind was "the ugly american". We americans are infamous for going to other countries and acting like common sense didn't live until we arrived. That's what I gleaned from this story because Eric, while probably innocent, is extremely arrogant. Could that be why they seem to hate us there? Shouldn't we be more respectful of other countries?

i have to agree with Abby, the prosecutor and judge in this case were preasurred by the community to come out with this quilty verdict, maybe because they feared for their lives or feared living their lives in constant bashing by thier peers in nicaragua, nevertheless, I really thnk Eric was not given a fair trial whether he commited the crime or not. I saw the show on NBC this evening and believe me it was very hard to see the human race react in such a manner. My prayers and support and thoughts go out to Eric.

I just watched Dateline and what a horrific story. I feel for Eric and his entire family just as much as I did for Doris's. I can't believe how one innocent man who had a complete and perfect alibi was found guilty. All I can say is CORRUPT CORRUPT CORRUPT. What a shame the way justice is served by foreign governments. Why not extradite him and give him a fair trial here in the states? He deserves that- this is his life! I am going to do whatever I can to get this man free, I don;t know him but I feel for him and his family.Hopefully he will win his appeal and have the freedom he deserves. How and why would 10 people lie about his whereabouts?? That judge was scared for her own safety. Justice needs to be served for this man somehow.

Have any of your readers been to San Juan Del Sur? 99.99% will say no but they are experts about Nicaragua and San Juan Del Sur.They may not be rich but they are very close knit and know there tiny village and it's people. It was safe until the the gringo surfers showed up and used their money to buy there women and buy (steal),the nieve peasants,of the property. Please don't give me this crap about how Christian Eric was,I have seen it happen for 20 years in Costa Rica and now in Nicaragua, exploit the weak and ignorant and make lots of money off their lack of knowledge.Yes,I have been to San Juan Del Sur numerous times and never felt threatened because my freinds that lived their entire lives told my it is safe. And NO I DO NOT BELIEVE the Dateline spin doctors with their half truths. You are not innocent until proven guilty,it just the opposite-YOU ARE GUILTY UNTIL YOU ARE PROVEN INNOCENT.The local people zeroed in on the killer and justice was served.Enjoy Nicaragua for 30 years Eric but your rich daddy will bail you out, just buy off a few poor peasants.

I am appalled at this situation. I had seen the first program on television some weeks ago. And have just finished watching the Date Line presentation tonight. We as Americans can not allow this to happen. This young man has been rail roaded. There are too many Nicaraguan officials connected to this case, that are afraid of what their public might do to them. Or they are too ignorant too see the facts and truths, to hand out the proper justice to the guilty party, which is not Eric Volz. I am writing Senators Jeff Sessions, Terry Everett and other Congressmen tonight to make them aware of this travesty of justice. And how it has struck a nerve with me. And how we need their considerable weight and voice to help get this young man home.

We need to make a difference. There is power in numbers. Instead of all this arguing, we need to come together with a plan and help him.

Hello there Mr. Nowicki- I'm a Nicaraguan who's lived in the US for over 20 years, since a very young age. Although I agree with you about the corruption of the government in Nicaragua, please allow me to clarify what as a Nicaraguan, I think is what's happening with Eric's case. Unfortunately, his case is political, Doris' mother is a Sandinista lady, orgarnizer of the infamous turbas that have plagued the country since the beginnings of the Sandinista government era in the late 1970s; proof is the mob she gathered for Eric's trial. I just watched Eric's story on Dateline and when I saw the mob outside the courthouse, it instantly took me back to when I was 9 and the "turbas" were out every evening, burning, killing, spreading destruction and fear all over town. This mobs are usually the poor, uneducated people who to this date still believe the Sandinistas are going to rescue them so they rally when they're told for any reason to put the scare of death on whoever their leader wants them to. I just hope Eric can get out of Nicaragua and reunite with his family again and he doesn't hold a grudge against all Nicaraguans, I for one, am rooting for him. tony nowicki wrote: HELLO, I RETIRED FROM THE USA TO LIVE IN NICARAGUA IN 2003, 5 MONTHS AGO I LEFT A WIFE AND MODEST HOME IN NICARAGUA TO LIVE IN PANAMA. STAY OUT OF NICARAGUA! THE JUSTICE SYSTEM IS CORRUPT . I ENVISIONED NO JUSTICE IN A NICARAGUA DIVORCE COURT FOR THIS GRINGO. LYING IS A WAY OF LIFE IN NICARAGUA, JUST LOOK HOW EASY DORIS`S (THE MURDERED GIRL) MOTHER DOES. IF THE LIE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH , JUST MAKE SOMETHING UP . LIKE THE MOTHER SAYING THAT ERIC WAS GOING TO KILL HER, OR THE FAMOUS MILLION DOLLAR SUPPOSED BRIBE THAT ERIC`S FAMILY WAS GOING TO GIVE HER TO DROP THE CHARGES. SHE SAID THIS IN COURT. THE EVIDENCE WAS IGNORED FOR WHATEVER REASON, ANTIGRINGO, MOB RULE , THE JUDGE WAS AFRAID FOR LIFE. SEE ERIC VOLZ´S WEB SITE. I DID NOT KNOW THE MAN BUT OTHER GRINGOS IN SAN JUAN DEL SUR LIKED HIM AND DID NOT, THING HE DID IT. JUST LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE... TONY ttnowicki@hotmail.com

Dear Tony- I'm a Nicaraguan by birth but have lived in the US over half my life. I agree that Eric may not have done the crime he's convicted of and that the Nicaraguan government is corrupted but I find your generalizations a bit insulting. Nicaraguans are NOT savages as you imply and yes, even perfect North Americans do hogtie and commit horrific crimes, not only on their homeland but overseas as well, but it does NOT mean ALL North Americans are like that. I suggest you inform yourself better before making such claims besides, this website is about supporting Eric and his family through this horrible time of unfairness. tony wrote: ERIC DID NOT DO IT, AMERICANS DO NOT HOGTIE ANYONE EVER, WE ARE JUST NOT THAT SAVAGE..HE HAD TIME TO CROSS THE BORDER BUT HE DID NOT DO THAT. Unfortunately, the United States cannot interfere with the justice system in foreign countries, just like foreign countries cannot interfere with matter of the US justice system. By the way, who are we to point "corrupted" fingers at other governments when ours have some of the dirtiest hands in the planet... just remember, this discussion is about supporting Eric!!! mcostelloe wrote: I just heard about Eric's story tonight...and I'm sick to my stomach to the point of.. and angry! Wow, I saw the dateline NBC program on Eric Voltz last night. What a pathetic display of injustice and plain stupidity by the courts. How ignorant can a group of people be. If I were his family, I would find a way to hire someone to break him out of their "jail" and get him back to the states.
Jeff Jennings Greenville, SC
Pathetic.
