Let's suppose Williamstown adopts a "sister town". Which one would we adopt? Is there a contest for adoption where little towns all over the globe could compete for the honor? I suggest a committee to contact every town in the world, and ask the residents of those towns to form committees to put forth an essay on why their town should be our "sister".
Maybe Williamstown will appoint a Sister- Town Adoption Czar Frankly, I don't give a hoot, as long as no tax dollars are wasted on cross- visits or a new sewer system for our little sister-town. Actually, some tax dollars have already been wasted in just discussing this ill-timed proposal. Enough for the Selectmen...there are many more important local issues to discuss. |

An essay? Now that was funny. I fell asleep watching the meeting. Did anyone give any consideration to adopting Fantasyland as our sister city? SM1. Well, no, we don't think we can do that. We're a Town and Fantasyland isn't a Town, it's really just a "land". I don't think a "land" rises to the level of or otherwise rates as high as a Town. I fear, worry and am otherwise anxious that we may be shortchanging Williamstown if we sister with, partner with or get together with a "land". SM2. While I would agree with that statement in principle, I also recognize the merits, benefits, and good things about Fantasyland. On humanitarian and environmental grounds, I don't think we can give the imprimatur of the gobbldygook to Fantasyland without forming a committee. SM3. We should form another committee to consider who is going to serve on the first committee. We must do right by our constituents. If something is going to enrich our experience we need to embrace it. Kumbayah my friend. SM4. I move that we send SM3's comment to Town Counsel for an opinion. SM5. I would be opposed to adopting Fantasyland unless she were to adopt our Zoning Bylaws. To speak metaphorically, she's gotta be a girl you'd bring home to mom. SM2. What I really like about the idea, and what I think is really positive and energetic and symbiotic is the fact that other Town's are doing it. It's just like jumping off a bridge on to cold hard concrete, if others are doing it it must be a good idea. SM4. Oh my, the cameraman just fell asleep and keeled over. |
