Hi I am from India, and i am not a muslim... but i look middle-eastern... I am planning to do my masters and phD from a dutch university... i am deeply sadenned by what the muslims have done to the netherlands (eg., to theo van gogh)... anyways, as a personal question, i wanted to know, if netherlands is safe enough for me to study there? would i face attacks because i look middle-eastern? a very stupid question, but i just wanted to know...:)

It's almost exclusively the other way around. You may, however, want to be a bit wary of the Antillians. In various cities they're competing with your Middle Eastern 'brothers' for control of the street. They might mistake you for a competitor. (and yes, I am Dutch, just living in Denmark)

Well, I am an Indian and I studied in the Netherlands in one of the best known B Schools. Dutch are very friendly and professional and safety is not a concern. I enjoyed my time in NL and have a lot of Dutch friends. The acceptance of anyone looking different is not as much as one would find in US but still people are nice, most speak English and are respectful.

Hi all,
I am Indonesian living for more than 10 years in Amsterdam. I find Nederlands safe and friendly.
The extreme right is on the rise lately, but that is expectable overall in europe. One of the implication of this is that you must learn Dutch.
In some rather right small town people may stare at you, but not in Amsterdam. Almost half of its population is color.

The LTTE is a "violent and ruthless" organization that carried out suicide attacks and recruited child soldiers to deploy for combat. The Dutch authorities have launched a complex and elaborate investigation called 'Operation Koninck' to uncover the prominent role Tamil Tiger leaders in the Netherlands played in financing the civil war in Sri Lanka. The LTTE, over three decades which killed over 100,000 people on both sides of the ethnic divide.

Don't worry; one can encounter prejudiced idiots everywhere but in the Netherlands people will not be prone to violence or assault. The extreme right is gaining more popularity across Europe but fortunately in the Netherlands the tolerant, pluralist people are still in the majority. Racism and discrimination is still seen as an evil in the mainstream discussion.

Hi, I and my family are in NL from past 6 months and i found people are quite friendly. Yes,learning dutch is an important point here. But it depends how long you want to be here. If longer then better be one among them and learn the language. But only for 1-2 years then may be it is nota compulsion.I believe they are these educated and cool people who do not believe in mere color, religion or cast. There is not culture or religion which teaches wrong. Its an individual's way of thinking or may be having sick mind. No body leaves thier country for just fun or is interested in getting beaten up in foriegn land.WE all are humans and should just learn to love and respect each other, no one is snatching any ones job, its just that business needs people for the growth of itself and the country and then they hier people when they can't get them in thier own country.God Bless.
