It makes me feel really sad especially having been born here in Darjeeling, how this place has always suffered from the lack of mature, clear thinking political leadership. This present call for an indefinite strike is both foolish and in-humane. There are hundreds of other ways to make ones voice heard. Please not this method of freezing everything at your whims and fancy's. This call for an in-definite strike shows poor judgment and how actually concerned these political parties calling the srike, are about the common people who's stomache they've hit the hardest. A sincere appeal to those calling the strike - please end this drama and let my hungry kids not suffer any more.

The idea of Gorkhaland is great and visionary. However as an ordinary citizen in Darjeeling I have real doubts if the local politicians can give good and progressive governance. Look at the people we have demanding, for Gorkhaland. One is the most corrupt man in Darjeeling, the other creates division between communities. These are the persons that Mr Bimal Gurung has close to him. Mr Bimal Gurung seems to have the right intentions but should have never inducted them into his party. He should also weed out all the other corrupt people who have come from the GNLF party and there are quite a few of them who have joined GJM. Its quite plain for everybody to see that GJM is the same old wine in a new bottle. Self governance is good and can only fulfill the aspirations of the people of Darjeeling if the governance is good, ethical & accountable.
At this point in time everybody's attention is turned towards Darjeeling and its in EVERY ONES BEST INTEREST (especially the people of Darjeeling) to resolve the current unrest in a peaceful manner. No one wants to go back to the agitation of the 80s that caused so much strife and took Darjeeling back 20 yrs or more. At this juncture GJM is in a fantastic position to move ahead proactively towards the development of Darjeeling. The State, the Centre have categorically stated that Gorkhaland will not be entertained & are now offering much, much, more than they have ever offered before. The GJM should seize this opportunity to sit down with the state & the centre to chalk out a development plan that will really improve the daily lives of even the poorest of Darjeeling citizens. Darjeeling with all its natural beauty, the view of Kanchenjunga from Darjeeling is unsurpassed, is in a much better position than so many other tourist destinations. Being in this enviable position Darjeeling should be able to compete with not only the rest of India but with the world as a top tourist destination. This is what the focus should be. Tourism brings revenue: revenue that can be invested in education, health & provide jobs & livelihood for the people of Darjeeling. Lets not jump the gun and start with Statehood. Let us first prove that we are capable and can manage effectively and proactively what we have. Geishing and his party GNLF squandered this opportunity for self gains, let it not happen again.
Rome was not built in a day therefore we have to go back to basics and start from the beginning. Take it step by step until we reach our goal which is to make Darjeeling one of the top ten destinations of the world. For this we must have the right people to lead and guide us towards it. We the people of Darjeeling must nominate / elect the right people to lead and guide us towards this goal. For this there must be accountability, right to information, freedom of press & all the other pillars that support a true democracy.
We don't have to look far. Look at Sikkim and see how much progress they have made. Sikkim is a good role model, we can learn from the way they have invested in infrastructure which in turn has enabled them to develop tourism.
Let us all put aside our differences, pettiness and deluded egos and focus our attention and energy on rebuilding Darjeeling and the future of its people. Lets put Darjeeling in the map of the world as one of the top ten destinations so that everybody can prosper and live in harmony.

is the indefinite strike the solution for Gorkhaland? if it was, darjeeling state would have been a reality now, because we have alredy seen a number of such bandhs. I dont understand who is benefited out of this? All of a sudden a strike is called by the some party and thousands tourists, WHICH IS THE MAIN SOURCE OF INCOME of the people in and around this place, are harrased and sent back. it is known that some tourist had to pay Rs6000 as against the normal Rs1200 to come out of 'CHAKRAVYUHA' to catch their train or flight Do you think that these will ever turn back to this place in their life? will they ever sugggest their friends and relatives to visit these places? is it going to help any one in any way.? there are a lot of people who can not afford to stock essential commudities for a long period of time. if the strike callers are really caring for common people they should withdraw this strike and create an atmosphere to work and live. they should please think of alternative decent ways to bring their dream true. this is a humble request

WE may not have Gorkhaland but we certainly have " Jhandiland"!!!! I was amazed at seeing the Jhandis ( flags of GJM) in the hills!!!! And from the little that I gathered from the locals sounded more like a Facist regime that is heading the movement!!!.....people who do not go to the procession are marked ...targetted...for what .....it seems everyone wants Gorkhaland...so why this nonsense of monitoring people...i believe that is why the GLP is being raised....another North Korea in making???? in jhandiland!!!! I believe in recent speech by Bimal Gurung, he said that he would do"dictatorship " within the party ....does he understand the word??? I doubt!!! Where is it going to Gorkheys??? There has to be awareness drive ......one cat( Ghising) was belled ...but who will bell this cat?? Another Ghising + 1000hyperbole in the making??!!!!
Or is there a price .........at which it will be sold!!!!!
A true leader of the Gorkheys is not yet born.....

yes reading the above comments made me more realise that few sane people are still around. Its really sad the "old wine in new bottle" the more things change the more they remain the same. lets pray that days to come the maturity of our masses improves and strong, focussed and intelligent leadership comes to give clear and practicle directions.

Darjrrling is the crown of WB.Its really tough for me to think Darjeeling as a separate state. From 1947 Darjeeling is suffering under the domination of the government. Its true that the government has not paid much attaintion to the North Bengal. In the South Bengal we have several education centers ,industries, malls but our North Bengal lacks all these things. But I think this problem can be solved by peaceful convercetion inspite of blood shed.WE ALL LOVE OUR NORTH BENGAL.A geographical boundry cannot separate North Bengal from our culture and history.
