UAE sitting on diabetes 'timebomb'

To whom it may concern;

With reference to some articles about diabetes in UAE, I am realizing how serious the problem of diabetes in UAE is. The VISION of the UAE health department is very clear: HEALTH IS A WEALTH. It is really about time to take real actions to reverse the epidemic problem of diabetes in UAE.
I am writing to you this message because I want to share with you my own experience with diabetes.

In May 2004, I was diagnosed with diabetes type II (my weight was 92 KG (1.79 M), my morning blood test was 1.58 mg/dl of glucose and my glycohemoglobin was 6.8.

This month of July 2007 , my blood test is around 0.92 mg/dl and my May 2007 blood test gave me for glycohemoglobin 4.9. I have also to tell you that my weight has decreased from 92 kg to 73 kg.

From my actual weight, you can guess that in 2004, I decided to go for diet rather than drugs ( glucophage) because my mother has diabetes , she was taking drugs for ten years and now she is on insulin and suffering a lot. I tried different types of diet but did not always follow it correctly and therefore I was not really controlling effectively my blood sugar. There were some difficulties.

After educating myself, from the internet, about what are really diabetes and the nutrition therapies for it. Finally, I decided to make a change in my life and to make diet my new life style. Please believe me, making this decision was the right one for me. I never felt so well, so strong and so healthy. I enjoy working hard at school and enjoy fully my family life. I will never go back to my previous eating habits and I hope to continue like this for many years to go.

I would like to share with you what I learned from my experience and what I really believe now.

IN 1930, THE DOCTOR VICTOR .ROCINE CIRCA SAID : IF WE EAT WRONGLY, NO DOCTOR CAN CURE US, IF WE EAT RIGHTLY NO DOCTOR IS NEEDE. I sincerely believe in this saying because, believe or not, with the same diet I just cured another disease I had for a long time.

I feel so sorry for my mother, the people in UAE and all over the world who are suffering from this terrible disease. From my heart, I want to help people around me. I am trying to talk to some sick people about my experience, but unfortunately, I found it very difficult to convince people about the really benefits of diet. People do not understand that diet is not eating less but eating better. Diet should not make you feel weaker but stronger by losing weight and finally diet should be a life style not a few weeks' of staving exercises.

From my heart, my advice for sick people,: EVEN WHEN YOU TAKE DRUG OR INSULIN YOU STILL NEED TO HAVE A GOOD NUTRITION TO DECREASE THE DOSES OF MEDICATION AND CONTROL BETTER YOUR BLOOD SUGAR TO AVOID ANY TERRIBLE COMPLICATION AND SUFFERING.

From my heart, my advice for the deciders:

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

INVESTING IN DIETETIC CENTERS AND NUTRITION SCIENCE TO HELP AND EDUCATE PEOPLE ABOUT MAKING GOOD FOOD CHOICES IS A WISE INVESTMENT.

THIS INVESTMENT WILL HELP PEOPLE SUFFERING LESS AND HOPEFULLY NOT AT ALL AND ALSO WITH THIS SHORT TERM INVESTMENT, YOU WILL SAVE A LOT OF MONEY IN A LONG TERM.

Wow, what a great testament to the need for better education about diabetes and more specifically, understanding of how it can affect anyone.

A new campaign launched in the UAE in partnership with the Emirates Diabetes Society and the Ministry of Health. It's called 'Inspired by Diabetes' and is unique because it encourages people to show through artistic means how diabetes affects them either directly or indirectly. Everyone is encouraged to participate. You can find more information at www.inspiredbydiabetes-me.com .

Type 2 is an entirely different disease than type 1. You are arrogant, ignorant and offensive. Try telling my 3 year old daughter who weights less than 22 pounds that diet can cure her. You should, in the future, differentiate between type 1 diabetics and your less threatening, more treatable form of diabetes. While type 2 is genetically linked and sometimes preventable, type 1 is not and should be recognized as such. I get so tired of suffering fools that do not take the time to learn the difference between type 1 and type 2 who assume that they are in the same boat with "real" diabetics. People can be such assholes and you are no exception. As altruistic as you motives for writing this may have been, you have failed to look at the larger picture and have offended a person who struggles to keep their family alive in the face of this disease.

Diabetes is the curse in Gulf. During summer people need more water, but when they find water & the tasty sugar filled bottled beverages they prefer the sweet ones. Imagine if they consume 2 bottles a day. It is enough to become diabetic in couple of years. Authorities should educate the public on these drinks. Next comes chocolates.
There are best remedies for diabetes in Indian Nature cure techniqes.
Wood Apple Leaves (Bel Patra in Hindi)- A thorny tree. Take 12-15 leaves grind it and mix in half a glass of water and drink. Otherwise just chew it up. Within 20 days blood sugar will come down.
