Why are Moroccans so gay?

I have noticed a high level of homosexuality in Morocco during my visit there and was wondering what is it exactly that's making them so.

what a load of rubbish! they're not gay. they are just very tactile. with women and men. but sex is difficult out of marriage and so those with a high sex deive will take it anywhere they can. dont think that that makes them gay though. most that ive met are very into women, and sex with women!!!!

I think your view is a bit skew wiff.

You don't actually know if people are homosexual by just observing them do you?

And anyway moroccan natives greet each other in a loving way by shaking hands and kissing each cheek. Also males who are friends hold hands and hug. But its all innocent and the majority of moroccan guys are straight and waiting to fall in love and be married to women.

Their religion also means that the vast majority are straight and will have traditonal families with kids.

So I dunno what page you are on, you have probably misunderstood.

There are gay people and straight people everywhere, and thats how it is.

That’s very true about the number of gays in Morocco especially Marrakech. Been straight Moroccan I have never noticed but once I read this column and went back to Marrakech for a visit... I was more wary so I was watching around while walking... and oh my god how much of them are. I think only foreigners can see them as in Morocco we stifle them because Morocco is strict and don’t accept homosexuality as been something natural. If you are a foreigner looking person you can’t help not to notice them as they are very obvious towards tourists. They flash, they sign and they shout very loud and clear... something I would never thought I would come across in Morocco...

People need to realize there is a deep seated jealousy, or enviousness against Morocco by most Arab countries. Why????....Because you cannot for a second compare the life style of Morocco, in its beauty, aesthetics, cooking , music, naturally beautiful landscapes, and welcoming educated people, with the dirty, down trodden, persecuted and choked, fanatical, intolerent, ugly, bad tasting food, children rapists kidnappers, practitioners of female circumcision, beheading maniacs, ignorant uneducated tasteless rest of the Arab world. Homosexuality is rampant in the Gulf states, and even in the rest of North Africa like Algeria simply because women there are treated like second class animals. You cannot put Morocco on the same scale as these places; if you do you are highly suspect of enviousness and jealousy. I'm saying it like it is, if someone disagrees, speak your peace.

Morocco has a long established history of being a playground for decadence of all kinds and gay men and criminal pedophiles in particular. This has since shifted to places like Thailand, but dates back to the days of the International Zone, etc. Paul Bowles and his posse of writers of "Kif Consciousness" literature and travel logs chronicle this explicitly in their writing. Alan Ginsberg who was involved in the American organization (NAMBLA) trying to legalize pedophilia visited Bowles in Tangier on more than one occasion for this purpose.
The combination of it's close proximity to Europe and exotic appeal to foreigners, as well as poverty and overvaluing female virginity (making sex with women outside of marriage hard to get) make it a perfect breeding ground for this. Where I lived near Inezgane was a gay hotel where all the local men hung out and were treated like kings by their gay tourist boyfriends. It was the only work they could find.
It may not be something Moroccans are proud of or are free to ackowledge, but it is very prevalent.
