I am not sure if I am posting my question on the right thread or not. Please forgive me if I am posting on the wrong thread. My question is as follows:

I plan to get married soon in Moldova.
I understand that a criminal record has to be presented before the registration of the marriage.

I have one DUI conviction, 2 non-moving violations, and 2 arrests involving false accusations, which were soon dropped.
Can this prevent me from registrating my marriage in Moldova?
Also, what kind of record are they looking for?

This is all I have.
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

You are an idiot if you want to get married in Moldova, but your criminal past won't prevent your marriage...

If you intend to bring your bride over to the U.S., the best thing is to marry in the U.S to simplify your life. Otherwise she'll have to stick around in Moldova until the visa crap gets sorted (a few years).

I got married in US almost 4.5 years ago but never registered my marriage in Moldova. The only reason you have to do that so that your future wife can get a passport in her married name. I still use my maiden name for my Moldovan passport. It doesn't hurt to get the marriage registered in Moldova but as far as getting married I would recommend US. If you get married in Moldova you will have to wait at least for one year till your future wife receives her temporary green card to be able to enter the US. And then you have to transfer all the documents to the state you are moving to, and that will prolong getting a permanent green card and her citizenship and sometimes things could get lost (as my friend who is a lawyer said). Hope this helps. And BTW you are not an idiot for wanting to get married in Moldova. The weddings are much more fun (in my opinion) but it has its own downside.

I too plan to get married to a citizen of Moldova. I have been imprisoned for 6 months (served 3) and my fiancee is being deported for overstaying illeally in the UK. What are the chances of being able to marry her in say Ireland or Italy? Can I then bring her to the UK at a later date?

What visa did the Moldovan arrive in England with is what is important. You are English and can marry who you want, the problem is can she stay once you are married? This is something you have to fight out with imagration. As for being in prison, so whatits got nothing to do with love

As a U.S citizen I married a wonderful Moldovan woman last year. We were married in Moldova and she received the necessary visa and we left for the U.S. within 1 week.

I don't understand why people are saying that the greencard takes a year or longer.

I'm a US citizen and got married in Moldova last year. The time from the date of marriage to the granting of an Immigrant Visa was 8.5 months. I initiated the visa paperwork in the USA when I returned after the wedding with the intention of having my wife immigrate in a K-3 visa. The process starts with submitting an I-130 which classifies my wife as an immediate relative. The K-3 visa is supposed to get your spouse to the USA before the I-130 is approved. However, the I-130 was approved before the K-3 application was approved. This meant that K-3 application was dropped and we could not pursue it anymore. The only other option was to pursue the more difficult Immigrant Visa (CR-1).

Had I known that the I-130 would have been approved before the K-3 paperwork, I would have initiated the I-130 at the embassy in Chisinau (you can only do this if the only visa you are pursuing is an Immigrant Visa). But even still, you can't get a visa in a week because your spouse has to start the process of collecting paperwork, get it all translated, get the proper government stamps, etc. The embassy in Chisinau does not process Immigrant Visas, you have to go to Bucharest for that. And there is at least 30 day's time between when they receive the approved (or adjudicated I-130) and when your spouse receives an interview date in Bucharest.

I suspect that 6 weeks is the least amount of time that you could get married in Moldova and get your spouse's Immigrant Visa. Starting the paperwork in the USA takes much longer.

AND just recently the embassy in Bucharest is no longer adjudicating the I-130. So you no other alternative than to initiate the paperwork in the USA.

ben - i would be honestly surprised if you do not have any problems with a wife entering into the UK, with deportation, she wont be allowed back in. end of story. marrying in another country within the EU, requires a shanghin visa, and u need a good reason for tht, marraige isnt one! moldovan, serbian, slovakian girls are very attractive however all former eastern european countries tht have not associated themselves with the eu or pacts with america/japan all deal with problems in travelling to any country regardless of marriage or not. best method for uk is to bring her in as a visitor and then re-enter her in again for marriage as a visitor. she can only stay for 30 days within that visa. she must then leave to her national country for further documentation. for america the process is alot more simple, plus at present the american councellor is leniant as he is relatively new.
maroontr - you should consult the turkish embassy in moldova and likewise the moldovan embassy in turkey - the answers will be under the counsellor section, procedure of marriage and legislation of documents.

hope this helps

Thanks for the advice my friend. I have decided to now marry her in Moldova (we are engaged some weeks back in Moldova when I went for 1 week). I then plan to bring her to UK on a spousal visa. I heard the strict geeza who usually refuses Visa's at the British Embassy in Moldova has left and his job has been taken by a less radical employee who is quite generous with the Visa'a!! Yeeha! Wish us luck!

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Virgo

You're struggling to get everything finished in time today, making you feel fractious and tired. At some point you may have to take a pragmatic decision about which tasks must be completed today and which will have to be postponed until another day. Do your best to keep things in proportion otherwise you'll waste time in trivial details and needless nit-picking.
