Palestinians to seek UN endorsement of statehood

Full story: Newsday.com

The idea appeared to be largely symbolic. The U.S., Israel's closest ally, would likely veto any initiative at the United Nations, and Israel controls the areas where the Palestinians want to establish their homeland.

Why doesn't Obama go over there, wave his hand and fix the problem?

The UN wants there to be war in the middle east or they would have fixed the problem by now.

The areas where the Palestinians want to establish their homeland?

Whoever wrote the story has it backwards.

The Palestinians had a homeland until the Jews came in to establish a state.

Then look what happened:

The Israelites consisted of 12 tribes.

The whole 12 tribes COLLECTIVELY possessed the "map" laid out in the OT.

The Jews, the tribe of Judah (as they are not factually any other people by any definition or reason nor can they ever be), did not possess the whole 9 yards given to the Israelites as the other 11 tribes had their own space.

Now look who has what.

Losing land is one of the things that happens when you lose a war. They did attack Israel and they did lose, so they also lost the land that Israel controlled in that war. There is nothing different in that then what has happened in countless wars in the past. With that and the other countries involved in the wars not allowing the Palestinians who once lived in their lands to returned only made the problem worse. Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt all had Palestinians living in their countries, after the wars they were not allowed back in. No one group can be held solely responsible, it was a group effort. All groups in the area hold blame, but I don't hear that expressed. I hear from one side it is all the fault of Israel, and on the other all the fault of the Palestinians.

The original plan was to expand all the way to Jerusalem by any means, if that were not so it would not have happened and a truly uninformed person would believe that the Jews would go back there after WW2 to establish a state and NOT take it all the way to Jerusalem.

There are no laws on the planet that apply to Israel since the rule of law is broken in most all "civilized" nations as the world just keeps spiraling towards anarchy.

The UN will never really be any UN until all member states have the right to veto instead of the US having blanket veto privileges.

If the United Nations were actually united then things would change. Until them, anything the majority of UN nations agree on is flushed down the toiled by a summary US veto.

The last thing the UN is united.

The UN votes but it isn't a democracy, it is a dictatorship with one nation telling all other nations to go to hell.

Sad but true, it's my country doing that for most of my life. It's a national embarrassment.

Get the UN out of New York, get it somewhere where it is not on the soil of any nation.

Take the UN into cyberspace where it sits in all nations equally instead of downtown some nation or another.

Those two have been at it but not in US headlines. There is much going on the world that is critical but it is not on the news.

That's why one has to check news sources from the sources of both sides of a conflict or news outlets of both nations.

These type news stories are kept out of circulation for a reason as it makes it a thousand times more difficult for the guy who watches the 6 o'clock news to put the pieces of the puzzle together since he doesn't have the pieces.

I call it shaping public opinion by instilling ignorance in the people so that they don't know what they are talking about or supporting, as long as they believe they are correct is all the major players want out of them.

The way you represent the UN is misleading. The US does not in fact have sole veto power over anything in the UN. It does, along with all the other permanent members of the security counsel, have veto rights in that counsel. If you disagree with what I have just said, could you please put out what part of the UN charter gives the US the powers that you have described?

The US gets to foot the bill for the UN which is just a bunch of party animals, The UN has out lived its purpose.

I don't disagree, I was just trying to get the other poster to show in the charter something that backs up his claims.

It would be wiser to create a Kurdistan, of Kurdish lands in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. And next, to create A Baluchistan from Baluch lands in Iran and Pakistan. But as for a Palestine, within Israel, that illusion is long over with, and cetainly not worth anyone's effort.

Please give these people a state.

When a child is born, their birth certificate lists their state as "stateless".

Even the jews were not stateless.

That's Biden's plans. Kurdish land has plenty of oil and who has been helping them develop their prize?

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Capricorn

You'll have difficulty finding equilibrium in your emotional life at the moment; try to control the impulsive side of your character. At work, your usual powers of intuition will be clouded. Fits of feverishness may bother you and break down your energy. If you can get out into the countryside for a walk, you'll feel much better.
