Many Mexicans see oil as last frontier against US invasion

“It's the same as strangling us because foreign oil companies are exploiters who will enslave us.”

Even with oil prices at record highs, Mexico's state-run oil company is managing to lose money. via Fort Worth Star-Telegram

"Even with oil prices at record highs, Mexico's state-run oil company is managing to lose money."

Makes American "BIG politicians" and "BIG oil" seem honest by comparison. Just how do you lose at over $118 per barrel anyway?

You lose it to taxes. PEMEX pays about 60% in taxes. That is 60% of sales, not profits.

If this is true, then it is Mexico that is screwing their own people. But, then again, I shouldn't be surprised. Just another thing to blame on the U.S.

they blame everything on the US, it is so easy to put the blame on someone else instead of standig up and admiting the truth.

"Every year on that day, school children learn about the bold eviction of foreign companies, especially those from the United States, whose annexation of half of Mexico's territory after the 1846 Mexican-American War still hurts."

This is what we refuse to do in American schools. Teach history.

Aaah, yes, the collective ugly side of globalization, international trade, supply-chaining, outsourcing, crude dependence, etc. added to deeply rooted nationalism from Mexico that does not allow realistic solutions to a well manifested problem. An undeniable situation that will impact hard on both countries in the near future. All part of the penance both the U.S. and Mexico have to deal with due to their geographic position and history.
Sorry haters, blame Mother Nature for creating the continents as they are and give thanks to The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the Mexican-American War way back in 1848.

It's the least Mexico can do for the U.S. They are absorbing all of our resources such as schools, roads, parks, healthcare, etc. Why not let the U.S. oil companies drill?

Please correct me if I am wrong, but is there not a Mexican law that does not allow Americans from EVER owning land in Mexico unless through a dual citizen having child or spouse?? Independent is right in what they write...Must be a Mexican thing to take things from others but not have there own things taken. Typical.

Great! When Mexico destroys its own economy because of its macho pride then we'll have even more millions of illegals running across the border. They dont like the U.S. now but when they have even less income from Pemex coming in they'll suddenly love American jobs.

Build the wall, put machine guns on it, shoot whoever tries to climb it. Land mines work well also. This would solve the problem. Better yet go to war with Mexico and take their land. Put the Mexicans on reservations! And yeah I'm black and will pay the KKK to come to El Paso and secure our borders!

Mexico can be such a great country. But the mentality of the culture has kept it where its at. Poor, Corrupt, ignorant, and most of all full of jealousy. Just came back from vacation there and needless to say there is anger and overzealous pride all over the place. Thank god Im home.

Corrupt managers and politicians have looted Pemex for decades! In the process, they have left Pemex without proper funds to invest in infrastructure, and exploration & production technology. Pemex future was mortgaged years ago by this fraud. Basically, very few people in mexico even care; this problem did not arise overnight.

The solution is a joint-venture. Hate America? ok fine, mexico can do business with any other major country who has oil production expertise: Canada, Brazil-PetroBras, Venezuela/Columbia (LOL), Spain-RepSol,France-ElfAquitan e,Russia-GasProm,
Nigeria, Indonesia,China, or any number of middle east OPEC nations.

And by the way, where did the above countries get their equipment & technology?-- that's right the good ole USA, namely - TEXAS,LOUISIANA,OKLAHOMA,ALASK A, & CALIFORNIA !
