Thats Food wrote: Everything brought by the English!!!! Yo dont have NOTHING!!!!!! Period. there is nothing typical american food. Roasted turkey (typical english) mashed Patatoes those where already eaten by the Mayas and the Incas!(mybe without butter) dressing??? dont make me laugh!! Dressing what kind of dressing? Thousand Island? French Dressing ? or wait maybe Italian Dressing????? Oh maybe you invented Toamtoes too?? Now that was a Funny answer from Malamute! <quoted text> Traditional American dressing (the way my mom makes it) consists of bread crumbs, cornbread, onions, celery, turkey drippings, chicken broth, eggs, poultry seasoning, sage, and salt. The combination is baked and served to compliment our Thanksgiving turkey. We also have deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, biscuits, sweet potato casserole, macaroni and cheese, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, and pecan pie for the typical Thanksgiving dinner. I realize that certain kinds of stuffing is used in other parts of the world, however, Americans (Native Americans, that is) actually invented cornbread (used for "cornbread dressing", the recipe above). Corn (or maize, as it is sometimes called, was first used by Native Americans, therefore it IS American. Technically, anyone in the Americas are, in actuality, American. The reason there is no "American food", as you say, is likely because "America", a.k.a. The United States, is only a few hundred years old. All of our land was already being utilized by many different cultures before Europeans ever came. It makes sense that we can not be compared to other cultures with thousands and thousands of years to develop. In addition, the United States culture is truly a "mixed salad", made up of many different cultures. We were diverse from the beginning. Therefore, it makes sense that we don't have a significantly developed culinary history. Don't talk about things you don't know about...it's not flattering when you're proven wrong.

of all the things to attack America on, you choose to focus on snack foods? do you know how stupid and bitter you sound, not to mention you're shining a FANTASTIC light on your own country. no single cuisine evolved independently of another, and considering America has been around for a comparatively short period of time in comparison to Europe or Asia, it's no surprise our food is still developing its own characteristics. btw: lobster rolls, barbecue, po' boys, gumbo, clam chowder, chicken and waffles, salt water taffy, succotash, whoopie pies, Boston creme pie, stromboli, German chocolate cake, eggs benedict, egg creams, ice cream cones, mint juleps, hot browns, key lime pie, mac-n-cheese,étouffées, pralines, chili, spam musubi just to name a few :)

Some time soon you'll sit down and eat some damn American or whatever-love the hell out of it and won't even realize it.

USA-American food IS disgusting, simply because it's pumped full of chemicals. And the foolish (of which there are many in America) eat it, in droves.

I have to laugh at all of the childish comments on this page. Although I'm of the opinion American food isn't anything special I'd like to ask what the fuck-wits are trying to establish here? Of course food in America isnt American! It's a colonial country inhabited by immigrants!! And what?... Thats what America is, much like Britain is today. Also experiencing a shift in food and culture as a result of mass immigration. Also why are Americans trying to counter attack specifying which foods are American? It is what it is... Food gathered from other cultures. Both except it and shut the fuck up for no arguing in the world will Change thy fact. Wankers the lot of you. A proud brit

American food: popcorn, turkey. Tell me if turkeys are in Europe? Also, Native Americans made popcorn.

fdfd wrote: American food: popcorn, turkey. Tell me if turkeys are in Europe? Also, Native Americans made popcorn. America has a super wide variety of foods. Because they allow more immigration then all the large Countries combined. You should come to Mexico and see all the people here packing into McDonald's, Burger King, Dominoes pizza, Applebee's, and all the other American restaurants. Hamburgers here in Mexico are consumed in big numbers. Hot dog stands on many corners. They pack the hot dog stands. Americans eat hot dogs but usually in picnics and parties. Here in Mexico they are a mainstay in the diet. There are Chinese, Italian, and just about every ethnic food you can think of here in Mexico. Who started Sushi? Here it is as big a craze as in the USA.

So much like britain... A lot of the popular food is foreign.. or a combination of foreign cuisines. I do however agree that in general you yanks eat a whole load of s*it. Many of us in Britain have also adopted a similar diet of too much meat, too many carbs, too much fat and too much salt.
Much of your beverages and food are made with with cancer causing high fructose corn syrup and aspartame.
Russia stopped buying your chicken because of the chemicals found on it.
Much of your beef is produced from cows that come from a CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation) Thousands of animals are kept too close and live in their own fesies.. They are fed corn which causes them to produce ecoli in their gut which is why you have a mass ground beef recall every year.. kids die each year from ground beef in the "great land of america"
Research Monsanto. America is not the "best nation in the world" your merely a commodity, a human resource, there's nothing special about being an American, or British for that matter.

Our diet is incredibly disgusting. Only people that have traveled outside the USA to Europe actually know how bad USA food is. It's goes beyond eating what's bad for you or not. USA food is not kosher for the most part. We eat too much non-kosher tainted meat with animal feces in it, too many processed foods, too much saturated fat, too much salts, too many refined carbs, too much HFCS.
I can't tell you how many times I've come across people not putting any vegetables or fruit on their plate at restaurants or otherwise. I've never been like this. I don't love vegetables, but some of them are okay and I eat the veggies I like. And I also realize the importance in consuming them .And I love fruit. No one has ever had to force me to eat those.
