<quoted text>There is no provision that says that in immigrant has to "prove that they will not become dependent on the government for at least 5 years". Nor do they need to "have someone to support them until they get their work authorization". There are some language restrictions, but there are also exceptions to those restrictions.
When a citizen is sponsoring an immigrant (and that is how the vast majority come here legally to live permanently), they must sign an Affidavit of Support. This Affidavit says they will be fully financially responsible for said immigrant. The United States does not want immigrants here who will become dependent on the government.

Quote:
What is an Affidavit of Support?

An affidavit of support is a document an individual signs to accept financial responsibility for another person, usually a relative, who is coming to the United States to live permanently. The person who signs the affidavit of support becomes the sponsor of the relative (or other individual) coming to live in the United States. The sponsor is usually the petitioner of an immigrant petition for a family member.

An affidavit of support is legally enforceable; the sponsor's responsibility usually lasts until the family member or other individual either becomes a U.S. citizen, or can be credited with 40 quarters of work (usually 10 years).

The law concerning affidavits of support is found in Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) sections 212(a)(4) and 213A. The provisions are codified in Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) at 8 CFR 213a.

A difference between sponsoring and financially supporting, though.

Are you having trouble reading? When you sponsor someone, you are agreeing to be financially responsible for them and it is enforceable legally. Read the quote.

OK, I'll give you that point. But you also said "Legal immigrants have to prove that they will not become dependent on the government for at least 5 years." That isn't supported by your post.

The Affidavit of Support is saying that the sponsor will be financially responsible for the foreign national. And, my link actually says it can be up to 10 years. The foreign national is agreeing with the papers he/she signs for immigration that he/she *has* someone to support him/her. Not only can the sponsor be forced to pay for bills incurred by the foreign national, but the foreign national can be deported if the citizen is no longer in a position to support him/her. Have you seen the paperwork or all the documents that must be supplied several times over to immigration regarding the financial status of the sponsor and so on? I've seen them. I know several people who have immigrated here, including my good friend's husband (from Mexico). He did it the legal way (imagine that!), as did the others I know. Immigration takes it seriously as to not having to financially support foreign nationals that desire to come here.

Wonderful how you ignorant bigots can make assumptions about others based on no evidence whatsoever. Says far more about your lack of intrlligence, honor, and level of civilization than it could ever say about the people you slam.

That's the best you have, personal insults? You can't even come up with a good fact or dispute what I posted? That's weak! I wouldn't bother posting if that was all I had to offer. Go Visit a few websites and get some of THEIR ideas since you can't seem to come up with your own. Post me when you want to have a battle of wits, not nitwits!

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Gemini

It's a red letter day for relationships under the Lunar Eclipse in your house of significant others, because you're facing some important and far-reaching changes to some of them. The pressure has been building since the Gemini Solar Eclipse on May 20. f you've known for some time that things aren't working out, you're about to reach a crisis point as becomes obvious that the present situation can't continue much longer. The coming New Moon in Gemini on June 19 will see progress of one kind or another, though this unusual eclipse cycle will have a far-reaching effect. You may have to be cruel to be kind, or more forceful than you would like, in order to get your point across, but do you really have any viable alternative?
