Aime Cesaire, voice of French Black pride, dies

Notebook of a Return to the Native Land", written in the late 1930s, in which he says "my negritude is neither tower nor cathedral, it plunges into the red flesh of the soil. French Caribbean poet Aime Cesaire, founding father of the "negritude" movement that celebrated black consciousness, died in his native Martinique, the France's Ministry of Culture said on Thursday. via Reuters

Las letras del mundo pierden hoy una de sus más importantes voces. Tuve oportunidad de acercarme a la obra de este escritor gracias a la cátedra de literatura Caribe que dicta la profesora Aura Marina Boadas en la Maestría en Literatura Comparada de la Universidad Central de Venezuela. La muerte de este escritor acaso sea, la ocasión para reflexionar sobre su pensamiento, en distintos lugares del mundo.

HMMMMMMMM. did not even know he died, i am sad to hear about this, i admired the Negritude movement andd its achievements. You will be missed!

Naturally, I am saddened to learn this. I grew up in Trinidad, which is similar to Martinique in many ways. Aime Cesaire was a man who sought dignity and equality for his race, and to instill in them a pride in themselves.
