Marshallese in Arkansas unhealthy, ineligible for health care programs

I read the article from the link above, and I'm disgusted with it. I'm a nurse, and having worked at a very busy family practice in Springdale, I have first hand experience treating the Marshalese. I don't know what their culture is like, as far as their homeland. But I will say, they don't do anything to take care of themselves. They'll come see us for major medical issues, like diabetes, heart attacks, etc. We'll give them usually 3 months of medications, and want them to return for follow up. They MAY come back they may not. The majority of the times, the ones that do return, never picked up their medications. You ask them why, and they say "I don't know". It's general fact, you can not help those that won't help themselves.

Marshallese aren't ineligible for Medicare, non-emergency Medicaid, Social Security, food stamps, the State Children's Health Insurance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and most other forms of federally-funded public assistance.

Although many Marshallese have health insurance through their employers, they often do not enter into formal marriages, so spouses and family members may not be covered by insurance plans.
Although these people have a legal presence here, and even though they are paying taxes like everyone else, they are not eligible for some of the services their tax dollars fund.

Maybe this will answer some of your idiotic suggestions. If you don't know what there culture is like or their homeland maybe you did not study American history. You guys bombed the shit out the islands causing many health issues.

marshalese people are cool. i used to hang around a bunch of em and drink beer. couldnt make out a damn word they said, couldnt even make out a word. sounds like worse gibberish than spanish, but spanish is latin based so i can usually fumble my way through communications.

mainly we just sat around on the apartment stairs and drank beers. one guy spoke some english, and he kind of introduced me. i would play heavy metal for them. hahah

If you hadn't have said it I would have. Just FYI to all those pissing and moaning about the Marshallese... My grandfather was in operation bikini atoll, nearly 50% of the men at the Bikini Islands when they were "testing" died within a year and a half after being told that the fall out raining upon them was not harmful. Guess what they died of? Not only that, they were told to hop on in to the water, which was coated in fall out from the a-bomb, because it was perfectly "safe". So not only did most men die within that decade of Operation Bikini Atoll... but those who lived suffer numerous bouts of cancer, including my grandfather. So I'm going to say if I were Marshallese I'd pretty much expect the United States to take care of me, they certainly didn't take care of our service men without a fight. No wonder they don't give a flip, they're treated with such disrespect!

Bravo to you Pharriesand!! Marshallese are decent and kind people. They contributed to the Americans by sacirific their land to the US military to test their weapon of mass destruction before they droped, and wiped out the City of Hirosima, Japan. As a Springdale teacher who works with students who speak English as a second language, I have many Marshallese students. They are some of the nicest, funniest, and culturally-rich people I know. Most of them are used to a very different lifestyle on the islands, one that does not have the same approach to medicine and access to western hospitals. Before you stereotype and judge them, it is important to understand that they are from a different culture and are just getting assimilated to the American way of life. And Springdale Stylist, I know you would like to think you know grammar, but if you look at your previous post, you wrote "Their too busy..." when it should be spelled "They're" too busy. Learn your grammar.
