I thank it is great that your church is so involved in it's missionary work, in fact I used to attend as a single person, tried the single night activities while taking my daughter and found rather clickish and didn't feel welcome.
I find my self with severe medical problems, single, running out of money and don't have money for food currently. I am so frugile, didn't find you under any sites for food pantries for Medical help, I think help the U.S. people first. I pray to the lord every day but am over whelmed by medical bills, prescriptions that the few $ pay before food. I find with all your giving that you can't give to the community or let a single person like me aware of it. God bless you.

Have you worked with the Open Door Mission or Salvation Army in Omaha, or the Tri City Food Pantry in Papillion? These are some of the primary faith organizations in the area that coordinate the help from a lot of the area churches.

A number of churches actively support (financially and volunteer) these organizations. This is much more efficient use of benevolent resources than each church doing its own thing individually.

These groups can provide much more than food. They are qualified to assess the whole spectrum of need and are tied into a broad network of resources to help - whether counseling, education, financial, housing/food/medical.

Good luck

out of all of the well known churches in Omaha, Christ Community Church is my favorite cause of their humanitarian work and also having good speakers like Lee Strobel speak at their church.<p>

I guess Mali has Pine Ridge beat by 3 years (Mali life expectancy 45- Pine Ridge 48). Pine Ridge, here in America and not so far away from Nebraska,(on the S. Dakota border) is not made up of willing or free occupants, but rather, like malnourished and tortured animals, were forced into that shadow of their sacred land. The remnants of those who survived long enough to become "America's permanent prisoners of war" are there to this day. Suffering in stoic silence. Why can't we help them, instead of some strange people, in some strange land? Is it easier on our conscience?

How wrong you are.

I am Lakota. My people are a free people. We are free to come and go as we please. We can leave the reservation any time and any moment we wish. We can live anywhere we wish. We can leave the reservation and attend public schools anywhere we wish. We can go to college and the tribe will pay. If we elect to we can move to Omaha and work any job anyone else can.

Many of us live off the reservation and are not hostages as you imply.

I would also like to point out that the life expectancy of 48 you point too is not supported by real facts. It seems that one person puts that out and it then becomes a very usable thing to quote as being a proved fact. Much of this is self serving propaganda.

First to ask is who came up with the 48 years? Second is what statistics are included in determine the 48 years.

As we both know there are a lot of self caused problems on the reservations that are not caused by lack of food, or lodging. Smoking, alcohol, drugs and lack of personal health care are wide spread.

Alcohol abuse is the major cause of all our problems not lack of food, clothing, housing or health care. That leads to abuse within families.

If you cannot change the life style of those who wish to self destruct they are going to have health problems from birth to death. Young mothers who smoke, take drugs and drink have babies that are affected by their actions. Those babies are started out with problems and the life style born into starts to affect the death rate in many ways.

The changes that are needed on the reservation is not more food but to eliminate all drugs, smoking and foremost is to stop the alcohol abuse. That would raise the life expectancy if you could then get the people off junk food.

Although there is suppose to be no alcohol on the reservation the people bring it in by the car loads. Of course we then blame White Clay and the other towns for selling alcohol but it is us not them that buy it and haul it onto the reservations.

If we talk about banding those caught with alcohol or being drunk from living on the reservation for a period of time the people don’t want that either. It seem like the people like it just the way it is but will always take more aid if it can be obtained.

At least that is the opinion of one native American who realizes that many of my brothers and sisters don’t like to hear this and would rather cry woe to me.

"Two Bulls", I am German and free to go anywhere I want as well. Perhaps I'll go to Japan and become a geisha girl..."America's permanent prisoners of war" is a quote from,I believe, Vine Deloria. I am somewhat familiar with Pine Ridge. My question is, why do American churches want to donate overseas, when so much help is needed here, where white America does not deserve to be? Unless, of course, you believe in Manifest Destiny.

I have no idea why American churches want to donate overseas. My guess is that they believe that the need for help is greater there than it is here. Some only want to help their immediate family; others want to help only in their town, some only those of their nation, race or religion. Then there are those who see themselves as simply people of the world and wish to help those in need regardless of their nationality, religion or location. They see each other as all children of God and people of earth one no better than another.

I believe that the ownership of land is man's idea not written into the laws of nature. The possession of land has always been by who ever was able to hold possession of it. Fact is it is only mans laws that set aside certain areas as countries to be held in the possession of a certain group or race of people. Even then they have to hold it by laws of man and defend it by force if necessary. In the history of man many races or groups of people have lost possession of lands to other groups of peoples.

The only claim to land as having been given by God was the area given to the nation of Israel. But as we both know God also drove them out of that land.

We all are people of the world and like it or not we have to live with each other. My people took this area of the America’s from those who were here before them. Although I might wish that things had turned out different, it did not and all people of all backgrounds can find something in their ancestral history to cry about.

If you feel so strongly about the “Whiteman” holding wrongful possession of this country you could personally do something about it. You carry a German name and could turn over what you have to the natives of this country and return back to Europe, or if you wish to Japan to become a geisha girl. The very fact that you remain here in this country yet say the things you do revels you as a hypocrite. I as a Native American don’t care which one of you leaves first just as long as you all go. A little personal action by you to set an example might start the migration of all White men back to Europe.

I have my doubts that you are going anywhere willingly and will be posting away daily over issues of this county rather than going back home to Europe and helping your relatives there.

Hey "Two Bulls"?, what do you mean by "my people took this area of the America's from those who were here before them."? How white can you get? You imply there were people here before the original inhabitants? And it was called "America"? Please, who were here before your people? Enquiring anthropologists want to know.

Those who want and need to know already know. No, we did not call this country "America" nor did we speak English or German. Not all Native Americans speak the same language either. You see us through the Whiteman's eyes. We see us as different peoples with different history's.

My people came into the Dakota's from the east sometime around 1650. We did not have clocks and calendars and relied upon oral history. We lived life rather than record it. We knew we were here and why we were here. We held this land to hunt and live in by our strength and power.

We drove the Crow's who were here before us further west and kept this area as our own. We were stronger and more powerful than the Crows.

You may consider all Native Americans to be one group of people. We are not just as there are differences between Germans, English, and French. All might be Europeans but each considers them selves to be different.

Probably all of what is considered to be Native Americans come here from somewhere else. My guess is that whom you consider to be Germans came to the land that is known as Germany from somewhere else.

We are all people of the earth and the earth is our home. History does not start at a point you select and much of man’s history has been lost in time.

You seem to want to find something to be right about as we are now leaving the main point of discussion. Pick whatever point you wish to feel right about but what you seem to think you know and want to speak about Native Americans is mostly a dream world of your making.

Gee, and here all along I thought the Wampanoag probably spoke the Tiwa of the Taos pueblo. And I would never have guessed that the Seminole and the Yana had different cultures. Or that the Oglala's harassed the Omaha and the Pawnee, and the Crow's. Thanks for the enlightenment, but I think I'm done here now.

Two Bulls, by the way, you might want to read a little Vine Deloria. From "your" tribe. Native American author, if you never heard of him. Try "Red Earth, White Lies".
