Malaysia drops English used to teach math, science

What a bunch of RACISTS! We should pull all diplomatic relations from this country until they embrace multiculturalism! Don't they know the only path to multiculturalism is to embrace multilingualism?

Instead of going forward, we are reversing regarding to studying the English Language in Science and Maths. Even said so by our ex-Primer Mahathir.

This is certainly one bad example of the politics in Malaysia. Laws made by one politician can be changed through the 'wimps n fancies' when another politician when in power.

How can we be ever certain that our present prime Minister Najib's concept of Imalaysia, performance now.people first and the lifting of Bumi 30% for foreigners taking up business in Malaysia and also the so many promises and quotas systems won't be side lined when DPM takes over as Future Prime minister?

Though I am a Malaysian, this type of compromising by the Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to gain political mileage is very em brassing to the whole nation except for a few die hard Malays.

Not only Dr. Mahathir is sad, 95% of malaysians are sad too.

The reason why some Malaysians wants Math & Science in English to be dropped is that rural M & S teachers are not proficient in English thus the rural results are poor.

Generally the results of all subjects in rural Malaysia are very poor , not only M & S. Should we blame teachers of other subjects too?

The truth is rural students have very lackadaisical attitude towards school and their studies. Having taught for more than 10 years in rural Malaysia, I know all these.

LOts of rural students do not do homework , nor do revision and play truant a lot. They have no sense of urgency nor the competative drive as the city students.

In short ,so stop blaming others for your own laziness, rural students.

Jakarta, RMOL. Merebaknya demonstrasi yang menuntut penggunaan bahasa Melayu secara lebih luas mulai direaksi pemerintah setempat.

Rabu (8/7), Kuala Lumpur memutuskan pelarangan pemakaian bahasa Inggris untuk pengajaran matematika serta sains atau ilmu pengetahuan dan digantikan bahasa nasional negeri jiran itu, yaitu bahasa Melayu.

Seperti dilansir Malaysia Mirror, kebijakan tersebut akan mulai berlaku pada 2012. Alasan resmi yang dikemukakan Menteri Pendidikan Muhyiddin Yassi, keputusan tersebut diambil setelah evaluasi menunjukkan hasil akademis pelajar Malaysia di kedua mata pelajaran itu cenderung menurun.

"Sebenarnya, tahun lalu rata-rata penggunaan bahasa Inggris dalam pengajaran matematika dan ilmu pengetahuan hanya antara 53-58 persen dari total waktu pelajaran. Tapi, dengan porsi seperti itu saja, tren nilai pelajar Malaysia di kedua mata pelajaran tersebut kurang baik," terangnya.

Meski Muhyiddin tak secara gamblang mengakui, bisa diduga kalau keputusan itu tak lepas dari tekanan publik. Bulan lalu, dalam demonstrasi politisi dan ahli bahasa, khususnya mayoritas etnis Melalyu, terungkap bahwa kebijakan pemerintah tentang penggunaan bahasa Inggris yang sudah berlaku enam tahun tersebut menghambat upaya memodernisasi bahasa ibu mereka (Melayu).[hta]

why we need to looked forwad???
the PPSMI is only begin in 6years and it's a short term period.
to lex divina,
we never export teachers come to Malaysia just to teaching the science and math.

Kelemahan bahasa inggris dalam maths dan sains, tidak lebih dari alasan KONONnya penyebab orang Melayu tidak maju. Lalu dibuat aturan supaya bahasa inggris jadi keutamaan dalam pembelajaran Maths dan Sains.

Padahal, orang Jepang, orang Belanda, orang German bahkan orang Korea itu majunya berkali lebih haibat dari negara India yang tebal penggunaan bahasa inggrisnya.
