Sorry, I do not think that this will happen. Crime is rampant in South Africa and very few tourists will venture. And the ones who do go, wil have a big chance of being robbed, raped or even killed. No way this is going to happen.

I used to work in JHB with a British man is his late 40's. One day at work I asked him "Why are you is SA with all this crime" to which he responded "I have never been affected by it and don't know what all the fuzz is about". The President and the "Safety and Security" Minister denying that crime is a problem in South Africa. This despite South Africa having the highest rates for murders, rapes and robberies in the world. This despite South Africa having one of the highest rates of child abuse and child rape in the world. That tourists are mugged and killed in our streets and in the beachfront. The ANC and the ruling government promised education and housing, water and electricity for all. What happens? Black empowerment becomes the next gold rush. Everyone who is in the government or has connections in the government jumps on the bandwagon. They become obscenely rich and arrogant. The poor become even poorer. There are no houses. People still sleep in cardboard houses and they are the lucky ones. Malnutrition is very high. Unemployment is one of the highest in the world. There is no fresh water. These poor people have to work up to 20-30 km a day to get fresh water. I'll stop here for now - just to give the reader the chance to digest the facts. Yes when you visit be prepared for the following:
-Almost non-existent first-world class public transport facilities. Where the public transport exists, its in the form of minibus taxis where the drivers are animals who disobey all the rules of the road and have scant regard for the safety of their passengers and those on the road. The bus services are no better as these vehicles are never serviced and the drivers have no training in manners. Whenever there is a taxi strike, busses cannot be driven as these will be burnt.
-Any driver who takes you around town will try and scam you.
-Massive traffic congestion. Firstly there are no new roads being contructed. As it is currently, these roads cannot cope with the volume of traffic now. God knows what will happen in 2010. Most of the roads are falling into a state of serious disrepair. Potholes and large cracks in the road are a common sight. Robots or traffic lights often don't work due to load shedding, a euphimistic term for saying that our national electricity supplier (ESKOM) is totally useless and cannot cope with the current electricity needs of the country. Accidents are common in South African roads with very slow emergency response rates. Anyway the bloody minibus taxis will end up blocking the emergency lanes. The traffic cops wont fine them for this though as they are too scared.
-Hordes of street children who will bug you and make your life a misery at every corner of the streets. Most of them are very violent as well and are drug abusers.
-Filthy beaches. Firstly the Blacks have no idea about public (and personal) hygiene. Our sewage system cannot cope at present. Therefore, fecal ladden sewage waters will enter our beach waters. Our city manager, in Durban, says that this is not a huge problem!!
-A colossal crime problem. Don't talk on your cell in the streets. You will be violently parted from it. Forget about counting your change on the streets. You will be parted from your jewellery before you know it. Your car will be stolen in no time or you will hi-jacked often with disasterous consequences. Your wife or girlfriend will be raped and sodomised in front of you and you and your children will be tortured to reveal whether the rest of your foreign currency is. If you use an ATM, just know that the cons have got there before you. Your card and your pin details will be known to them and before you know it, your account will cleared.
-Don't bother with reporting any crime to the police. Firstly many of them are criminals themselves. Secondly many of them are corrupt. Thirdly, many of them are shit-scared of the criminals. Fourtly, they wil arrest you for reporting a crime.
-Shithole state health care facilities. Our public hospitals are in a state of collapse. You are more likely to die in a state hospital than outside of it if you fall sick. The queues are so long that they never end. Most doctors and nurses are unfriendly and uncaring. There have been reports of sex orgies amongst nurses while patients lay dying in nearby wards. If you don't having medical insurance, forget about going to a state hospital for health care.
-A useless performance by Bafana Bafana the home soccer team. They won't get past the first round. The Blacks play a style of soccer unique to them, its called dribble yourself and score no goals. Am tired now. Will send info later...keep reading

Guess what all those who plan to come to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup? A passenger in a minibus taxi (read: death trap) overhead 2 Black guys talking about how they aim to make lots of money during the 2010 World Cup. By violently robbing tourists of their dollars and pounds. This is what they said and has been reported in the newspapers. By the way the passenger who heard this had no means to travel to work except use a minibus taxi as he had been hi-jacked at gunpoint a few weeks ago. Goodness know how the rest of these savages are plotting and planning their crime sprees during the World Cup.
