How can I go about locating relatives from Vilnius? Is there a website to go to? My Grandpa was on the Carpathia. This was the boat that did the rescue from the Totanic. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There are two ways:

1. Use the LT white pages, telephone people in LT with the last name of your grandfather, and hope that they speak English (most under age 30 do) and hope that you get lucky.(The LT white pages has about a dozen people with the same last name as my grandfather and about forty with the same last name as my grandmother.)

2. Hire a genealogist in LT to track down your relatives through birth certificates. You can do this yourself through the historical archives for documents older than 100 years, but LT now has the same privacy laws as the U.S. and other western nations.

I assume that you have already obtained all the U.S. history available from ancestry.com .
