I am trying to find some old and traditional Lithuanian recipes, but not from a book, from individual families. It is my belief that Grandmothers cook the best food, and those are the style of recipes that I would like to find. Can you help me? Anyone please??

Patrick - No. No one gives anything free these days. I wanted a catholic mass said for my dying grandmother and was told I had to pay money first.
I would suggest you find a nice Lithuanian girl...marry her and soon you will be speaking Lithuanian. But, again, this won't be free. You will wish you learned another language. Good Luck...Iki

My grandmother was a terrible cook. All her recipes resembled burnt Lenten offerings! We always ate before we went to her house to visit. She only knew two setting on her stove....OFF and HIGH. She created so much food smoke in her kitchen it looked like she was in a battlefield...stick with German food (cabbage and vinegar)...don't forget te carraway seeds!

If you do a Google search you will find receipt websites. My friend has a website that can assist with learning Lithuanian. It's www.thelithuanians.com .

There you will find some links to other sites. Good Luck!

Yeah...my 86 year old mother cooks good 'ol Lithuanian food....with no recipe book....of course....and....she cooks it the old fashined way. I can help you with piraguka (zeppelina), capusta (as a soup...or fried)...koshelina...(only a little info for this one)...potato pancakes....and...that's about it! The rest is, simply, meat and potatoes. Her authentic cooking comes from Southern, not Northern Lithuania. She claims that there is a difference. E-mail me at angie4spk@yahoo.ca if you are interested in sharing the little bit that I know.

I can help you with that! It's my 86 year old mother's specialty. She calls it Piraguka...or ...Zeppelina!

Its spelt Kugelis. Its a delicious potato bake. Several other excellent main dishes were Cepelinai (like really large dumplings filled with meat), Nalesnikai (Stuffed Crepes.. fillings on offer were usually either cottage cheese or a meat mix) and Koldunai (tiny dumplings that remind me of Ravioli).

To the OP, try finding your local Lithuanian community hall in the telephone directory. They may cook traditional meals or know people that do.

I had the same problem but I typed in "Lithuanian Recipes" and did a Google search. You will be amazed at the number of great, traditional Lithuanian recipes you will find.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Sagittarius

Relationships have been going through through testing times since the Solar Eclipse at last month's New Moon in Gemini on May 20. Events may force you to reevaluate the state of a partnership. You may even decide that you need to make some major adjustments if things are to carry on as you would like. During the coming fortnight leading up to the rare second New Moon in Gemini, this may feel like a crisis, but that doesn't mean you should abandon all hope or throw out the baby with the bathwater.
