could any one tell me how to obtain copies of birth certificates from 1880. i have a copy that was done in 1928 for my grandmother to gain her pension, It has deteriorated over the years and i would like to replace it. If any one could tell me where i can apply for one i would be most grateful. also any one familiar with the name Stebulaitis or varients of the name. My grandad was Yadzopas Stebulaitis known in england as Joseph stebulaitis
Lorry, if you have all of the date and place of birth in Lithuania, this person can help you get a new one. Vilius@LithuniaVisits.com. He is a genealogist in Vilnius and speaks English. His website is LithuaniaVisits.com . I believe the cost is around $80 USD. Now, from that period there are not birth certificates as we know them. Rather there are entries in a parish book, which are then copied and translated. They are not very fancy.
If you want to find out more about tracing relatives in Lithuania, you might look at this article:
There are only three historical archives in LT for personal records. So, you can begin your search there. If unsuccessful, you could then hire a genealogist. Some privacy laws apply to records less than 100 years old.
