Good for the Libyans.
Jul 9, 2008
Energy-rich Libya has approved an offer by Russia's gas monopoly, Gazprom, to buy all its hydrocarbon exports.
It follows a meeting in Tripoli between Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi and Gazprom chairman Aleksey Miller.
Gazprom will also set up a joint venture with Libya's national oil corporation to modernise Libya's oil refining facilities and create new capacity.

2 You are right. Invest all your life savings in russia. I am sure the russian gov't is not gonna nationalize it in a case of war or when the investment becomes really attractive. |

2 Why not! The world isn't holding back on taking, taking, taking. It seems things are not as bad in Russia as some would have you think. |

2 Sure put the worst spin on it you possibly can. Mustn't ever say anything nice about Russia or you and the Diaspora will keel over and possibly die. Too bad that you diaspora from Canada can't leave Ukraine alone and let it develop its economy naturally along side Russia, getting along even if they are two countries now. But that mustn't happen because the Diaspora doesn't like it. Better to Ruin the Ukraine then let it work out its own regional problems. Pathetic. |

technically... originally this was an "oil for grain" exchange with Ukraine.. which would allow Ukraine to join in on Oil profits... while easing grain costs for Lybian government (with limited growing capacity due to geographic limitations). While benefits and negative aspects of this gazprom scoop up remain to be seen... I do feel that in this particular situation NaftaGas was somewhat pressured due to the whole gas situation between Russia and Ukraine... It would hve been very benefitial for Ukraine to have some oil spoils.. and now it will go towards Gazprom's unending appetite... but then again... if the terms were favourable... then why not... |

I do not want to see Ukraine lose out on the oil spoils as Ukraine doesn't have any oil of its own and needs all the help it can for its economy. I wonder if Gasprom would have gone after the Libyan oil deal if it wasn't for Ukraine stealing Gas and Ukraine's Timmoshenko saying that Ukraine would be satisfying Ukraines needs before allowing transititing the gas to Europe. I think it all goes back to the perception that Ukraine is making an enemy of Russia by allowing its Orange Revolution government to allow NATO to recruit Ukraine into NATOs push into the Former Soviet Union. As there is no need for NATO to break its promise not to push into the former Soviet Union, it is needlessly causing tension and problems in Eastern Europe as nations who hate Russia wish to cause trouble, an energy hungry USA wishes to get more gas and oil and Ukraine is losing by making an enemy out of Russia. If Ukraine hadn't stolen gas meant for Europe and Timoshenko wasn't so busy pushing fullfilling Ukraines need for gas first even if they can't pay for it, I don't think Gasprom would have been allowed to push for libyan oil. Ukraine can't play with Russia's enemies and expect to be treated as if it were a part of Russia with lower gas prices. I think with Ukraines flirting with NATO that it is being perceived more and more as the enemy, along with screaming for Russia's early exit from Crimea. I feared that interference from the west would cause trouble for Ukraine, and it seems to be happening. It may be fun and games for the Diaspora sitting it out safely in North America to push NATO and the EU on Ukraine and pull it away from its traditional economic partners but for what purpose? Ukraine is a free and independent country, and as such it does not need NATO or its missiles to make an enemy out of Russia. This push for NATO is more to satisfy the enemies of Russia who are spewing hate and revenge and the Diaspora with its visions of grandeur to destroy Russia, without a thought that it is far better for Ukraine to trade with and have good relations with Russia of which Ukraine used to be a part of. Ukraine needs to make sure that its govenrment is representing the wishes of its people and not catering to the voices from over seas. |
